Join us for a series of eight interactive online workshops addressing key issues in distance teaching and learning. Each workshop will be delivered by an expert tutor who will draw on insights from recent studies and experiences during the COVID-19 crisis to outline the main challenges and lessons learnt, provide practical tips and techniques, and set out best practice for both synchronous and asynchronous situations. You will also have opportunities to discuss the learning points and share your recent challenges and successes with other teachers from around the world.
What you'll receive

In this workshop you will learn how to manage the remote learning environment and create supportive conditions where your learners can thrive. You will cover remote classroom management techniques, helping you to establish routines, give instructions and set up interactions between learners; and how to create a supportive learning environment, helping you to develop and maintain group cohesion and ensure learners have a sense of progression.

This workshop will help you to address the challenge of learner engagement, which can be more difficult when teaching remotely. It will set out how to get and keep learners’ attention through a variety of inputs, including embedded video, audio, narration, and visuals. It will also outline strategies and task types for keeping learners motivated after the initial presentation.

This session will support you to maintain a focus on speaking when teaching remotely. It will explain how you can provide opportunities for speaking practice, offer tips for making this meaningful and outline techniques for managing it successfully.

This workshop will help you to address the added complexity of checking your learners’ understanding and ensuring they are on task in a distance learning environment. Ceri Jones
Ceri Jones is a teacher, trainer and materials writer. She has been involved in coursebook writing for teens, young adults and adults for over 20 years. She has recently been involved in writing two coursebook series for Cambridge University Press, Uncover for secondary schools and Evolve for adults. She is particularly interested in the transition from physical classrooms to online classrooms and the challenges and opportunities this change has brought to teachers all over the world.
Lindsay Clandfield
Lindsay Clandfield is an award-winning writer, teacher, teacher trainer and international speaker in the field of English language teaching. He has written more than ten coursebooks, and worked most recently on the new course Evolve from Cambridge University Press. Lindsay has co-written various methodology books for teachers, notably Dealing with Difficulties and Teaching Online (Delta Publishing). His most recent methodology book was Interaction Online (Cambridge University Press) which he co-wrote with Jill Hadfield. Lindsay is also the creative force behind various web projects including the e-publishing collective The Round and the sci-fi/adventure materials website Extreme Language Teaching and, most recently, the podcast The TEFL Commute.

All workshops will be delivered via Zoom. Please make sure you install Zoom before the workshop to make sure you can join. You can do this at https://zoom.us/ We strongly encourage you to use a laptop or computer rather than a mobile device as this will ensure you can view shared documentation and participate in group discussions.
How will the workshops be delivered?
The workshops are designed for teachers who: • teach learners at secondary level or above • have a minimum language level of B2.
Who should attend?
Two types of certificate are available. • For each live session you attend you will receive a certificate of attendance. These will be provided by email within 3 working days of the session. Please note that if you watch the recording but did not attend then you won’t be eligible to receive a certificate. • A certificate of completion will be provided if you attend workshops on at least seven of the eight topics in the series. Eligible participants will receive their certificate of completion by 4 November.
Will I receive a certificate?
When you have paid for your series ticket, you will be sent details of how to register for the workshops you want to attend. If you register for both workshops on a topic then you will be able to attend them. Please note that the input for both sessions will be the same and even if you attend both sessions, you will only receive one certificate of attendance for the topic.
If I buy the series ticket, can I attend both the morning and afternoon workshops on the same topic?
The presentation sections of all workshops will be recorded. If you have bought a ticket for an individual workshop then you will be sent a link to the recording. If you have bought a series ticket then you will be sent links to the recordings of one workshop session on each topic. This will include any workshops that you were not able to attend. Please note that the group discussions are an important part of each session and you will not receive a certificate if you just watch the recording. Certificates will only be awarded to teachers who take part in the session.
Will I be sent a link so that I can re-watch my workshop(s)?
If you have purchased one or more individual tickets, it may be possible for you to upgrade to a series ticket so that you can attend the remaining workshops at a reduced cost. Please contact elttraining@cambridge.org so that we can help you to organise this.
I bought a ticket for one or more individual workshops, but I’ve decided that I would now like to attend the whole series. Can I upgrade my ticket to a series ticket?
If you’re unable to attend your workshop, you can apply for a refund via the ticketing platform (Eventbrite). Refunds must be requested at least 24 hours before your workshop is due to start. If you are unable to attend but do not apply for a refund, then you will receive a link to watch the recording of the workshop. Please note that if you watch the recording but did not attend then you won’t be eligible to receive a certificate.
