LOMLOE
According to the Government, the purpose of the LOMLOE is to adapt education and training systems to changing circumstances and to the expectations placed on them at each point in time.
In order to increase educational and training opportunities for the entire population, in line with European Union and UNESCO objectives and recommendations, the new education law focuses on 5 key points.
1
It recognises the best interests of the child and places children's rights among the guiding principles of the system
It promotes gender equality
2
It encourages continuous improvement in education centres and the personalisation of learning
3
It grants a central role to the development of digital competence
4
It recognises the importance of education for sustainable development
5
The LOMLOE changes content learning to a flexible and open model based on the transversal development of cognitive, social and emotional skills and competencies.
The law establishes three levels of competencies and content that are the basis for the exit competency profiles at the end of basic education.
A
Key competencies
They are a combination of basic knowledge, skills and attitudes for lifelong learning, and are common to all stages and areas.
B
Specific competencies
These are related to the key competencies and are a second level of specification. They have been defined for each area and cycle of primary and secondary.
C
Basic Knowledge
These are the specific contents of each cycle and are presented in basic content blocks to be developed in the particular curricula of each area or subject.
ver +
Personal, social and learning to learn This is about a person's ability to self-reflect, manage time and information effectively, collaborate with others constructively, maintain resilience, and manage learning throughout life.
Our courses and materials are based on The Cambridge Life Competencies Framework, a competency framework that helps prepare students with skills that go beyond learning an additional language.
Did you know that all Cambridge courses already work on the competencies?
Linguistic communication This entails consciously mobilising the set of knowledge, skills and attitudes that make it possible to identify, express, create, understand and interpret feelings, facts, opinions, thoughts and concepts in an oral and written form with visual, audio and multimodal formats in diverse contexts and for different purposes.
Multilingual This involves using different languages appropriately and effectively for learning and communication.
Mathematics, science and technology (STEM) This implies understanding the world using the scientific method, mathematical thinking and representation, as well as technology and engineering methods to transform the environment in a committed, responsible and sustainable way.
Digital This involves the safe, healthy, sustainable, critical and responsible use of digital technologies for learning, working and participating in society, and interaction with those technologies.
Citizenship This is the ability to act as responsible citizens and to participate fully in social and civic life, based on an understanding of social, economic, legal and political concepts and structures, as well as on knowledge of global events and an active commitment to sustainability and achieving global citizenship.
6
Entrepreneurial Concerning creativity and initiative, this involves developing a vital approach aimed at acting on opportunities and ideas, using the necessary specific knowledge to generate valuable results for others.
7
Cultural awareness and expression This is aimed at understanding and respecting the way in which ideas and meaning are expressed creatively and communicated in different cultures, as well as through a series of arts and other cultural manifestations. It involves making an effort to understand, develop and express one's own ideas and a sense of belonging to society.
8
Linguistic comprehension Understanding the general meaning and specific and predictable information of short and simple texts, expressed clearly and in the standard language, making use of various strategies and, where necessary, using different types of support to develop the linguistic repertoire and to respond to everyday communication needs.
All Cambridge courses expose schoolchildren to a wide variety of texts in the Reading, Literature, Listening and Video sections.
Linguistic production Producing simple texts in an understandable and structured way, using strategies such as planning or compensation, to express brief messages related to immediate needs and respond to everyday communicative purposes.
We encourage the creation of these texts and offer varied practice through the Speaking, Writing and Collaborative Projects sections.
Interaction Interacting with other people through everyday expressions, the use of cooperation strategies and the use of analogue and digital resources, to respond to immediate needs in the student's interest in communication exchanges, respectful of the rules of courtesy.
We reinforce this competency through practical exercises in the Speaking, Writing and Collaborative Projects sections.
Mediation Mediating in predictable situations through strategies and knowledge aimed at processing and transmitting basic and simple information to facilitate communication.
This competency is new and, although not specifically named, most courses address it through Collaborative Projects and activities such as Pair work, information gap activities and summarising a text.
Multilingualism Recognising and using the personal linguistic repertories between different languages, reflecting on how they work and identifying specific strategies and knowledge, to improve the response to given communicative needs in known situations.
We foster this new LOMLOE competence through the Inductive Grammar Approach: translation activities and comparisons with their mother tongues.
Cultural competence Appreciating the linguistic, cultural and artistic diversity of foreign languages by identifying the differences and similarities between languages and cultures, in order to learn how to manage intercultural situations.
Culture sections are a classic in our courses, with entire units dedicated to a country or culture and many opportunities to compare and explore the local culture in depth.
CAMBRIDGE
Cambridge Life Competencies Framework and the LOMLOE
Thanks to its participatory and collaborative nature, an English class is an ideal place to develop competencies and skills for the 21st century. At Cambridge we have long defined and integrated them into our courses through the Cambridge Life Competencies Framework: the foundation for the design of all our materials.
Its close relationship with the new basic competencies and methodology proposed by the LOMLOE ensures that our courses meet the needs of the new law.
