The central provinces may not have a coastline, but they can still boast some unforgettable scenery. From the rich forests and wide-open prairies of Saskatchewan to the great lakes of Manitoba, there’s a world of adventure here. In northern Saskatchewan, set out on one of 50 mapped kayak routes, offering both gentle exploration and challenging whitewater.
Further east, visit the sleepy town of Churchill on the shores of Hudson Bay. It’s a hub for Arctic wildlife experiences, including watching polar bears and beluga whales. Here cities are smaller than the metropolises of the east and west, but you’ll be charmed by the cultured riverside town of Saskatoon and by historic Winnipeg, named after the pristine freshwater lake that extends to the north of the city.

In Eastern Canada, adventure-hungry visitors head straight for the rugged coastline, which runs from the sweeping bays of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick in the south to the craggy, intricate shores of Newfoundland and Labrador, then on into the Arctic Circle. Uniformity is unheard of here – colorful individual houses dot the landscape, and the region revels in its Gaelic heritage, which can still be heard in local language and folk music.
The waters around the Bay of Fundy and Prince Edward Island are ideal for exploring by kayak, and further inland you can discover a trio of great cities near the US border: pretty Quebec City on the banks of the St Lawrence river; the capital Ottawa, boasting grand Victorian buildings and major museums; and cosmopolitan Toronto, famous for its live music scene.

Welcome to the Pacific Northwest you’ve always dreamed about. A landscape of thickly forested hills, deep fjords and charming fishing villages; water-loving people who can’t wait to take you fishing, kayaking or sailing. From the buzzing port city of Vancouver in the far south, you can explore one of the most wild and romantic coastlines in the world, peppered with uninhabited islands and secret coves.
Travel inland and you quickly hit the mighty Rocky Mountains, famous for their spectacular scenery and world-class ski resorts. Take the famous Rocky Mountaineer from Vancouver to see the region by rail – you can ride it all the way to Banff or Jasper, enjoying jaw-dropping views every step of the way. Further north, Yukon Territory offers up truly untamed wilderness, its spell broken only by a few remote towns.
