Marc Girardelli
Only average? Or Top!
As a professional athlete for almost 20 years in ski racing, Marc Girardelli experienced all ups and downs of a sports-career. Starting as a child alone with his father in the early seventies, he managed to assert himself against the great nations, ending up being the World No 1 for several years. He had to pay a heavy price for it and still now he feels the damage he did to his body. But Marc insists he wouldn’t change a thing for the great moments he was able to experience through his career, a journey he’ll take us through in this talk.

True Transformers - an outlook on the next generation of banking in the post corona normalcy
The foundation of the financial service industry will become data-driven and algorithmic. This does not mean that the future of banks will be shaped primarily by artificially intelligent robot-advisors, but by open networks of traditional and new providers who jointly develop solutions for customers. Such ecosystems require an adaptation of the banking system architecture in which non-competitive basic services and regulatory processes are outsourced to a centralized platform. But above all, a clear direction is required, because a technology platform is not sufficient and digital solutions are only a means to an end. Sustainable innovation requires a focus not only on future needs of customers - but on society.

Dr Beth Healey, is an Emergency Medicine doctor and has worked for several years in the British National Health Service as well as a variety of international settings. Fluent in French, this has included providing pre-hospital medical care in the Swiss Alps. As part of medical and logistical support teams she has worked in a number of extreme and remote environments including Svalbard, Siberia, Greenland and the North Pole. As research MD for the European Space Agency (ESA) Dr Healey overwintered in Antarctica at spaceflight analogue ‘Concordia’, otherwise know as ’White Mars’. There, she researched the effects of isolation and extreme environment on the physiology and psychology of the crew. During the winter due to the low temperatures (-80C) and long polar night (105 days without any sunlight) they were completely isolated even in case of emergency. This research has been used to help inform space agencies of the challenges future astronauts on long duration spaceflight missions may face as well as develop medical models required for such missions. She also participated on an overland traverse, driving a Caterpillar tractor 1,200 km across the Antarctic plateau. Since returning from Antarctic, Dr Beth Healey has contributed to a Space and Global Health UN specialist interest group considering how we can use space derived technology to solve medical problems on earth including life support systems, telemedicine and remote diagnostics. During the recent COVID-19 pandemic she has drawn on her personal experience and research into isolation to share advice and coping strategies to help reduce anxiety during governmental lockdowns and self isolation.

Credit is not immune from financial repression. The visibility of the downward pressure is palpable on average yields and spreads of corporate bonds, across most geographies and ratings. Remarkably, the return differentials between top and bottom performers don’t flatten over time, arguably even the opposite occurs. With this backdrop one can easily fall in various traps, such as the destruction of principal, and the increasing aversion to idiosyncratic risk. While credit returns have been essentially driven by macro trends in the last decades, and most fund selectors still look at credit funds through this lens, we’re convinced that performance derives from the ability to take independent views on idiosyncratic risks.
Workshop objective:
Understanding why and how a prolonged episode of financial repression creates segmentations in credit markets, both on the investor base and investment opportunities.

The US-China rivalry is the defining conflict of our age. This has critical implications for the tech sector as history shows that great power conflict has always been fountainhead of technological innovation. Looking backwards we can see clear parallels and warnings from past conflicts. And looking forward we will explore how this new cold war can drive competition, innovation and ultimately investment opportunity.
Workshop objective:
The managers take a thematic approach to fundamental, bottom-up investment, seeking exposure to innovative companies with a focus on growth and quality at reasonable price. Seeking to capitalise on the acceleration of innovation in China, they apply a deep understanding of the technological, lifestyle and environmental innovations that are reshaping the world.

Climate change is inevitable, but its amplitude will mainly depend on our capacity to globally reduce the CO2 emissions. Given European banks’ dominant role in financing corporates and individuals, the greening of the banking sector is crucial in supporting the environmental transition of economies and societies. Moreover, increased regulation acts as a catalyst for banks to ramp up green financing, but also to pressure existing clients to implement credible environmental strategies.
Green bonds – issued by European banks – target the financing of projects with a positive environmental impact in allocating the proceeds to eligible projects with measurable impact.
Investing in GAM Sustainable Climate Bond Fund, a SFDR Article 9 fund, gives access to green bonds from high-quality European banks, constituting a portfolio still offering an attractive yield. The proven financial analysis process – built-up on 35 years of experience - is complemented by an internal green bond assessment framework.
Workshop objective:
Gregoire Mivelaz describes how the financial industry can act as a big driver to “green” the whole economy, his selection process and how you can benefit as an investor.

Will developed market inflation materially rise for the first time in a generation? Central banks seem unsure whether to stick or twist, so how are investors supposed to react? In this new world, a highly flexible and liquid approach is needed to extract value from fixed income markets that traditional strategies cannot reach. In the fight against climate change, we believe hydrogen technology is the key to lowering emissions in industries where electrification alone is not practical. Governments around the world are already beginning to embrace hydrogen as the answer in these sectors, establishing a hydrogen economy that Bank of America Research expects to be worth trillions of dollars by 2050. But how can investors access this theme in their portfolios? Our experts will explain how an actively designed index approach can capture the growth potential of the hydrogen economy’s entire value chain.
Workshop objective:
You will discover….
- The components of the hydrogen supply chain, from production to supply, distribution and end uses
- The industries where hydrogen is becoming competitive, and the technologies that will make hydrogen even more competitive and greener in the future
- How an actively designed investment strategy can capture the growth potential of the full hydrogen economy

Global Sustain features 25-50 of the highest quality stocks in the world. We believe the best way to compound wealth is by owning high-quality companies with sustainable and high returns over the long term: ‘sustainable compounders’. Successful long-term compounding requires integrating ESG and focusing on minimising the risk of permanent capital loss rather than chasing upside. The investment team views long-term, portfolio manager-led engagement as a critical underpinning to an active investment process. The portfolio has a significantly lower carbon footprint than the broader market and the team actively engages with company management on their decarbonisation strategies.

Pre-pandemic, individuals had already began to focus more on being and remaining healthy in body and mind. Increased spending by health-conscious individuals juxtaposed with rising global healthcare costs have led consumers to actively seek healthier choices by preventing illness and maintaining good health as opposed to emphasizing the treatment of disorders. We expect these trends to substantially accelerate in a post-pandemic world and benefit from secular growth drivers such as improving lifestyles, environmental considerations in addition to technological progress and accessibility. This shines the light on compelling investment opportunities embodied by the Wellness economy.
