Not scared to roll up her sleeves—she is a carpenter after all—Collé made almost all of the cosmetic changes without, including painting the floor and the 14-foot-high walls with the help of her mom, a former fresco artist in Nice. The kitchen was a horrible rental beige, so she gave the cabinets a lick of bright white paint and fashioned her own island by turning a bookshelf on its side and topping it with an extra-large wavy wood piece of her own design. The bathroom, now a clean sanctuary with sleek fixtures, was a “horrific” brown, she says, “so I just threw white on every single inch of the space.” Now a Hay neon light in—you guessed it—shocking pink gives it a colorful glow.
Collé moved into Bushwick three-bedroom in 2020 with a roommate, but as her business grew—she designs wavy mirrors and tables that appear in cool-kid aesthetes’ apartments—she realized she needed more space for her workshop. She also saw it as an opportunity to unleash her true style. “When my roommate moved out, I was like, okay, now is the moment to make it as unique as I want it to be,” she explains. To Collé that meant filling it with a seashell-shaped vintage sofa; a Sophie Dannin rug she would eventually hang as a tapestry; and a gallery wall of curiosities, including a mantel, a retro-style fake cake, and a fuzzy cowboy hat, all in her signature shade.
Collé sourced IKEA’s now-discontinued squiggly “Krabb” Mirrors on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. Among Collé’s vintage finds—hello, fake cake!— sits her Chair Rug by Studio Sasa.
To give her Sophie Dannin rug more a more prominent spot, Colle hung it on the wall. An IKEA Fado lamp lights the way.
In her all-white bathroom, a Quiet Town shower curtain, fuzzy Studio Sosa bath mat, and Hay Neon Tube LED light provide doses of her favorite hue.
