Time certainly passes by quickly at this time of year and believe it or not, we are only weeks away from the 29th edition of ibtm world, the global event for the meetings industry. Once again, we have worked hard to create and deliver an event based around our core values of unrivalled business meetings, world-class education and inspiring networking. Planning for ibtm world starts with arranging your travel and if you need to make your own travel arrangements please do check out the oneworld Airline alliance as there are special fares available for travel up to 7 days before and after the show. If you do arrive by air, then you can now transfer to Fira Gran Via using the new high speed Metro that will take you directly to the venue in just 17 minutes (look out for the Fira metro station). Trains run approximately every 7 minutes. We will also continue to run shuttle buses from the airport to the venue.
Once in the exhibition, you may choose to attend one of our carefully crafted education sessions which will once again take place on the show floor in the ACS Knowledge Village - topics covered this year include Safety, Security and Risk Management, Sustainability and CSR, Innovation, Disruption and Technology, Professional Development/Staff Recruitment and Retention, Client Engagement and Business Development Technology and Industry Trends. Our aim is to provide a more ‘sculptured’ programme where attendees can link their personal education schedule according to these themes or can pick and choose according to individual speakers and topics. As always, we are delighted to welcome back many of our long standing exhibitors but a special welcome to our largest number of new and returning exhibitors to date including the destinations of Argentina, Canary Islands, Finland, Seychelles, Japan and Busan to name a few.
Although much of what goes on in Fira Gran Via is formal, we want you to also enjoy the opportunity to get together with friends and to make new ones. This year’s Welcome Reception on Tuesday evening, hosted by Barcelona Convention Bureau is a great introduction to the city and this year’s theme is all about food - “Deliciously Barcelona” will celebrate Catalonia which has been awarded European Gastronomy Region for 2016. Then we have the usual Networking Hour on Wednesday evening where exhibitors welcome you on to their stand. For those that really like to enjoy the music scene and dance the night away, we have given Club Night over to create ‘Rendezvous’ in conjunction with MPI Foundation and NBTC Holland Marketing. The event will again take place at Opium Barcelona and proceeds from all ticket sales will go to the MPI Foundation. I really do hope you enjoy all of what we have planned during ibtm world. Connections really do mean everything when it comes to doing business and as the world’s leading meetings industry event, we are committed to making your time here with us as meaningful and productive as possible. Guy Bigwood Group Sustainability Director Guy has developed one of the most comprehensive sustainability programmes in the events industry. His work has been recognised with over 19 sustainability awards, and has positioned MCI to be the organiser and consultant of over 750 events about sustainable development, Smart Cities and energy. Guy also leads MCI Sustainability Services, a global consulting practice focused on helping cities, corporations and associations define, launch and accelerate sustainability platforms, initiatives and events. Guy has trained over 30,000 people and has been involved in creating six international sustainability standards including ISO20121, the APEX-ASTM Environmental Event Standard and the GRI Event Organisers Reporting Standard.
Filip Matous Digital Strategist With a decade of bringing traffic to websites, Filip has experienced all kinds of marketing challenges and goals which can be summed up this way: traffic + website = profit. With the global market environment in a constantly evolving state of flux, it is more important than ever for business events professionals to be aware of the current opportunities, challenges and developments in demand and supply in our industry. For that reason, this year’s ibtm world’s Trends Watch report will once more be enthusiastically welcomed by destination marketeers, venue managers, events planners and all other stakeholders in the meetings and events sector the world over.
2016 has been an exceptional year in terms of significant economic and geopolitical upheavals - of which, in Europe, Brexit is the most notable example, but is far from being the only factor contributing to the turbulent state of markets worldwide and fluctuations in corporate and consumer confidence.

This year Global DMC Alliance is celebrating its 10 year anniversary! As we look back over the last 10 years, we see amazing developments. The main objective of this network was that of creating a group of top quality DMC's that collaborate in order to enhance each member’s client portfolio, share leads and contacts and exhibit together as a team in most important MICE shows. This goal has been reached and surpassed. Today, Global DMC Alliance previously known as DMC4eu (2006-2014) provides an extensive network and operates in 28 countries, 30 destinations and 4 continents. Our partners are independently owned dmc’s who share a number of common values; they are reliable, trustworthy, creative and professional. All network partners are small or medium size companies, each one of them specialists in their country of origin and offering the best solutions for the organization of events, congresses, conferences and incentive trips.
