Become more attuned to your intuition; reflect on what the results were when you followed your intuition versus when you ignored that gut feeling. Utilize pattern recognition to make strategic decisions.
Ask “Why?”
Think Freely
“It’s so easy to rely on precedent – we rely on precedent, we’re attorneys – and she says no, the precedent is wrong. This is incorrect and let me tell you why. I found that to be just so encouraging. For us attorneys, lean into justice and doing what’s right – even if it’s against what those around you believe.”
Lean Into Justice
“What people need to understand is how out-of-the-box of a thinker Pauli Murray was. It was Pauli Murray who said our opportunities lie in the equal protections clause, which Ruth Bader Ginsburg worked with and eventually won gender equality.”

Embracing Gender Identity Goodwin embarked on a pronoun education campaign to encourage the addition of personal pronouns to email signatures and online biographies. Using correct personal pronouns signals respect and acknowledgment of an individual’s gender identity – and reduces the possibility of alienation arising from incorrect usage.
Prioritizing Pronunciation While having one’s name pronounced correctly may seem like a simple gesture, it is incredibly important for establishing a culture of inclusion and respect. That’s why Goodwin launched a standardized name pronunciation technology, which allows lawyers and global operations team members to record their names with the correct pronunciation, tone and inflection. Hear from Goodwin partner Kris Brown on the importance of pronouns.
It is in our firm’s blueprint not only to participate, but to lead the way on diversity, equity and inclusion. The Goodwin community repeatedly demonstrates an unwavering commitment to driving transformative change through high-impact initiatives.
“
As women we all share a common vision of equality and hope. I strive to uplift and empower all women through encouragement, kind words and an enthusiasm to be a living example. I believe that we are infinitely connected through hope, love, and a peace that resides within all of us. A vision that transcends generations, ethnicities, cultures, and race. Today, I challenge you to uplift a woman with that same energy, vision, and hope. She deserves it. Domitria Vieira, Specialist, IP Docketing
My historical role model is Eleanor Roosevelt. I greatly admire her work fighting for the rights of marginalized groups, including women, African Americans, and the poor. The way she was able to successfully navigate the media as a woman, fight for what she believed in, and eventually be appointed to the American delegation to the United Nations, is an inspiration to me always. I think of her steadiness and devotion to her causes when I encounter an obstacle, and then keep going. Ankita Varman, Communications Coordinator
As the pandemic goes on, women have been disproportionately affected by the economic slowdown and many are faced with multilayered challenges of additional household and caregiving pressures. I am inspired daily by the women I work alongside at Goodwin, especially those who straddle the responsibility of two merging worlds; big law and motherhood. Despite the challenges, I’ve watched firsthand as the women I support continue to provide the highest quality of service to our clients, although many have had to craft rapid-fire adjustments. Ashley Geilim, Paralegal
I try to foster an environment where understanding one’s needs and acting upon them is encouraged. I endeavor to lead by example, and set time aside for introspection where I can ask myself what is working and what isn’t working as I navigate life as a working mom with small children. Lynette Elam, Associate
Accelerating Diversity in the Boardroom Spearheaded by Goodwin partners Stuart Cable and Lisa Haddad, we launched the GOOD Directors initiative, a first-of-its-kind national program designed to create opportunities for next-generation, BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and women leaders to join Boards of Directors of public companies. Global Operations Team Inclusive Leader Award: Prisnel Dominique “Leaders should be inherently inclusive. In order to be successful in achieving those outcomes, being inclusive in your leadership style is not only the right thing to do but frankly will lead to the most efficient and successful outcomes.”
Lawyer Inclusive Leader Award: Andy Sucoff “I really always strive to be an inclusive leader. I’ve realized that I lean into various diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives because of how much I feel I’m getting out of my inclusion journey; how much I am learning and how personally rewarding it is to be an ally, to be a sponsor, to be a champion.”
Inclusive Global Operations Team Department Award: Information Services, led by David Fleming “Over the past 15 months, the IT team has stepped up to every challenge. Inclusive Business Unit Award: Real Estate Industry, led by Minta Kay “All of our partners are very focused on informing their decision-making by the values that have been shared this week. Don’t be daunted by these lofty goals; take it in your own hands and every day, when you interact with someone, put yourself in their shoes, think about how they feel and what their experience is. All of those little things, when you add them in together, are what produce profound change.”
