Choosing safer activities
You can resume many of the activities that you did before the pandemic. To reduce the risk of being infected with the Delta variant and possibly spreading it to others, wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission. Even if you are fully vaccinated, you can become infected with the Delta variant and you can spread the virus to others.

COVID-19 DELTA VARIANT
If you are fully vaccinated
If you are NOT fully vaccinated
Continue to take steps to protect yourself.
- Get vaccinated.
- Wear a mask.
- Stay 6 feet away from others.
- Avoid crowds and poorly ventilated spaces.
COVID-19 spreads more easily indoors than outdoors. Studies show that people are more likely to be exposed to COVID-19 when they are closer than 6 feet apart from others for longer periods of time.
Outside activities are safer
- Crowded, poorly ventilated indoor events
- Close contact with infected people at home
Less likely exposure
People who have a condition or are taking medications that weaken their immune system may not be fully protected even if they are fully vaccinated.
For vulnerable people
- Continue to take all precautions recommended for unvaccinated people, including wearing a well-fitted mask.
- Outdoor activities
- Staying at least 6 feet apart
- Limit time spent with people who don’t live with you
More likely exposure
- Infections happen in a small proportion of vaccinated people, even with the Delta variant. When infections occur among vaccinated people, they tend to be mild.
- Fully vaccinated people infected with the Delta variant can spread the virus to others.
- People with moderately to severely compromised immune systems should receive an additional dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine after the initial 2 doses.
- Run, walk, or bike at your neighborhood park
- Participate in an outdoor exercise class
