When do moments become memories? What value do we take from our experiences?
The world has changed in the two decades since Mastercard shared its vision of Priceless. It’s also changed significantly in the last year. There are still as many interpretations of a Priceless experience as there are people to appreciate them.

But have our values changed? Have our passions shifted? Do experiences still matter?
Mastercard reached out globally to explore what people look for from experiences. It turns out, people still value experiences that bring them closer to their passions and to each other. But people today are less interested in fleeting moments of entertainment, and rather seek experiences with lasting takeaways.
People want encounters both online and offline that have a positive impact. And as before, people are willing to invest time and energy to make them happen.
In outreach to thousands of people across 18 countries:
Two-thirds of people say they prioritize experiences over material possessions.
2/3
4/5
Four out of five say they prefer experiences they can share with family or friends to ones they have by themselves.
Two-thirds are open to different cultural influences that will broaden their horizons.
How are people fulfilling their demand for experiences with positive, lasting impact?
Mastercard’s new research identified several emerging trends, including...
Selfcare to strengthen connections with others
After a year of shutdowns and quarantines, we’ve all learned that minding the self isn’t selfish.
A growing appetite to seek out greater learning through experience
People are feeling more empowered to seek out experiences that expand their horizons.

Craving a break from the everyday
When it’s time to break away, people want to share time with others they care about.
Priceless experiences mean many things to many people. Just as they always have.
What’s changed? Perspective. Momentary satisfaction is out; lasting impact is in. People value transformative experiences that change them for the better. Today’s “priceless” experiences are the ones that bring people together, strengthen relationships, expand horizons, and enrich our lives. They uplift and inspire us in ways that last. Mastercard strives to understand these evolving desires—and to help make them come true.
