COACH Leighann Gourlay started her school team up a year ago - and says the group of 11 boys and one girl have gone from strength to strength.
They train twice a week, during school, and have a game on Saturdays.
Pupil Support Assistant Leighann said: “Grassroots football is an amazing opportunity for the kids and a great way to bring them together.
“The school was only built two years ago so building the team has helped the children settle in and they’re over the moon with their brand new kit.”
Team Captain, Cayden Lane, nine, added: “I was really excited when we got the kits - it makes us look more professional.”
Vice Captain Zoey Smith, also nine, added: “I love the new kit and I’m very grateful that we have them.”
Joe Alubaid, Director of Specsavers Cameron Toll, in Edinburgh, said: “It’s great to be able to give something back to the community in this way. Grassroots football is fantastic for getting kids out into the fresh air, helping them keep fit and healthy and learn things like teamwork and social skills - as well as having fun at the same time.”
OUR Free Footie Kits have given kids at Crosshouse Primary School a boost - and helped them come together as a team.
Gail Allen, Depute Headteacher, said: “When the kits came the children were so excited - they felt a real sense of pride.
“They look like a team and they play like a team - we are all so proud of them, and their parents are really proud of them too.
“Grassroots football is great for teamwork, discipline and following instructions, and it’s very popular with all of our children.”
Team captain Blair Morton, 11, added: “We feel very proud when we’re wearing the new kit - it looks great.”
Martin O’Neill, Director of Specsavers Kilmarnock, said: “Sport is so important for children - it gets them outside and helps keep them healthy.
“Being outside also helps reduce visual problems, as spending too long inside, in front of computers, can lead to changes in people’s sight.
“Kits are very expensive to buy so we are delighted to have helped support this initiative and the kids looked fantastic in their new strips. They were excited to have them and they all looked the part.”

BUCHAN GIRLS
PETERHEAD, ABERDEEN
BUCHAN Girls have recently recruited new players into their team - and reckon their new kits will help them feel part of something big.
Kevin O’Brien, Club Vice Chairman and Development Manager, sees grassroots football as a great way to promote health and wellbeing.
He said: “We are delighted to have received this kit, which will help our girls feel the sense of togetherness that comes from being part of a team. We’d like to say a big thank you to The Scottish Sun and Specsavers for their kindness and generosity in providing us with this great kit.”
Stefanie Carnaby, Retail Director at Specsavers Peterhead, is delighted to have been involved in the partnership too.
She said: “It’s really important to us to support local teams and groups within our community and we are delighted to have sponsored this new kit.
“Grassroots sport is so important for kids’ health and for the ethos they learn from playing together and being part of a team.
“It gets them out into the fresh air, away from electronic devices, and it’s also how we find the sports stars of the future.”

NEWMAINS PRIMARY
WISHAW, NORTH LANARKSHIRE
DEDICATED coach Paul McArthur has run the school’s team for more than 12 years - and sees the benefits of grassroots football first hand.
The janitor, who is also a former Queens Park striker, is delighted with our Free Footie Kits and said the kids are over the moon too.
He added: “Lots of schools can’t afford to buy strips for their teams so getting kits for free is amazing - it’s a real boost.
“The kids are proud to play for their school and being on the team brings them out of their shells and improves their confidence."
P7 pupil Emily Williamson, 11, added: “This means a great deal to our school and it’s lovely that the community was able to achieve this.”
Tyler Peat, nine, who recently signed for Rangers FC Under-10s, added: “It’s brilliant and I can’t wait to score goals in it.”
Erin Riddell, Director of Specsavers Wishaw, was delighted to hand over the new kits - and knows they will be well used.
“We see lots of the kids coming in for glasses or sports goggles, so it’s great to see them in their brand new kit. We are thrilled to help give something back to our community.”
