A rapidly growing segment of the mission critical world is the Modular Data Center. Mestex has the capability to design and manufacture highly efficient cooling system specifically for the Modular Data Center market. Systems are designed to interface directly with the modular data hall and match the physical configuration for a seamless look and feel.
These systems incorporate multiple direct drive fans using either conventional variable speed AC motors or the even more efficient EC motor technology. DDC controls monitor conditions and control fan speeds, damper operation, pump operation, and filter status.
Systems can include full hot aisle exhaust fan arrays as well for a complete cooling solution. Using Mestex’ decades of experience building outdoor mounted, outdoor air systems, these solutions offer an extremely efficient and weatherproof answer for very efficient modular data center cooling.

Indirect-Direct Evaporative Cooling combines the energy savings potential of direct evaporative cooling with the additional benefit of a system that provides cooling without increasing the humidity of the supply air stream. When operating together the indirect and direct sections can develop supply air temperatures that are as much as 4 degrees below the ambient wet bulb temperature and can approach supply air temperatures similar to refrigerant based systems. Mestex has advanced this technology dramatically, based partly on research that Mestex has done for National Science Foundation, by using Direct Digital Controls. The Mestex IDEC products use multiple sensors for control, monitoring, and reporting of unit operation. In addition, these sophisticated systems provide enhanced air handling through the use of direct drive fan arrays. Up to 2N redundancy is possible in some unit configurations. The Mestex IDEC systems use a unique integrated cooling tower plus high efficiency copper tube/aluminum fin coil for the indirect cooling section. Variations on this system allow configuration as an Indirect Evaporative Cooling system only with no outside air entering the data hall or a configuration with a full outside air economizer option managed by the DDC controls.

Direct Evaporative Cooling solutions offer operating savings for mission critical installations that surpass any solution other than simply “opening the windows”. First cost can also be lower due to reduced electrical distribution costs. Finally, by avoiding the use of refrigerants completely, direct evaporative cooling is the “greenest” solution for data centers and telecomm.
Supply air temperatures approaching within 4 degrees above the ambient wet bulb temperature are achievable in almost every climate. Mestex companies have been manufacturing direct evaporative cooling systems in the United States for over 50 years and have updated this centuries old technology with more efficient fans and controls to optimize the energy savings opportunities.

Many data centers or telecomm installations use air handlers installed in the white space with air distributed under the raised floor. Until recently it has not been possible to take advantage of evaporative cooling in those applications unless a large, and expensive, built up system is deployed.
Mestex now has a direct evaporative cooling system that is designed to be used just like a conventional DX computer room air handler but dramatically reduce energy use. This product includes Mestex most sophisticated new DDC controls, direct drive fan arrays, water quality monitoring with UV filtering, and high efficiency filtering.
The Intake Penthouse provides filtered outside air utilizing “free cooling” or “adiabatic cooling” solutions.
