Identify and Mark Meadows
1.
Restoration starts with documenting the current conditions of seagrass beds. Which seagrass meadows are in good condition with high carbon stores and which areas are in need of care? Using buoy’s to mark seagrass meadows helps to alert humans to slow down and exercise caution to keep seagrass meadows safe from anchoring and other human activities.
Protect
Provide Alternative Anchoring
2.
Boat anchors are a major cause of seagrass damage. By installing eco-friendly moorings, the Blue Meadows project keeps anchors out of seagrass meadows, giving existing meadows a chance to regenerate.
Educate the Community
3.
When boat users understand the impact human activity can have on seagrass meadows, the community can become part of the solution instead of contributing to the problem.
In addition to natural regeneration, Blue Meadows is working on large-scale restoration using aquaculture. The organization researches and tests restoration techniques at its 4,305 square-foot seagrass nursery, the largest of its kind in England.
Restore Existing Meadows
4.
• condition of the seagrass
• biodiversity
• carbon stores
Measure Impact
5.
Documenting progress is an important part of any restoration project. Blue Meadows measures its success on three key indicators:
sloe
soda
tom
collins
