Day 2: Immerse Yourself in the Culture

For traditional crafts from across Brazil, visit Dois Trópicos and Feira na Rosenbaum on Rua Mateus Grou in the nearby artsy neighborhood of Pinheiros. On the same street, you’ll find the boutiques of up-and-coming independent designers.
On Avenida Paulista in the upscale neighborhood of Jardins, São Paulo Museum of Art houses an impressive collection from across Europe and Latin America. On Sundays, the avenue is closed to traffic, transforming into a vibrant street fair.
Day 1: VISIT Creative hotspots
Join walkers, cyclists, joggers, and skateboarders cruising the trails that wind through Ibirapuera Park, the city’s green oasis. Stalls sell fresh coconut water, while the park restaurant Selvagem is ideal for an alfresco lunch. The Afro-Brazilian Museum, celebrating African heritage in Brazilian culture, and the Museum of Modern Art are both located in the park.

Wander down the hill to Beco do Batman (“Batman’s Alley”), a warren of walled alleyways covered in impressive spray-paint murals. Take a break at Coffee Lab, a café that elevates Brazil’s coffee culture, where you can order a pão de queijo (cheese bread) to pair with your brew.
Vila Madalena, São Paulo’s bohemian neighborhood, is a creative hotspot with boutiques, bookstores, and art galleries lining its dizzyingly steep streets. Raquel Arnaud is the grand dame of the São Paulo art scene. Her eponymous gallery was a pioneer of the city’s art market.
Explore the historic Centro district, starting at the Municipal Market (Mercadão), to sample São Paulo’s famous mortadella sandwich and crispy pastel de bacalhau (codfish pastry). Then visit the 17th-century São Bento Monastery, nestled between soaring skyscrapers. See the city from a different perspective at Sampa Sky, a glass floor on the 42nd level of São Paulo’s tallest building, the Mirante do Vale. For a laid-back lunch of classic Brazilian fare, try Bar da Dona Onça, owned by Janaína Torres, named The World’s Best Female Chef in 2024 by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
Food lovers can wander around Liberdade, the heart of the city’s Japanese population. Tall, red torii (traditional Japanese gates) and street lanterns add to the atmosphere with a myriad of noodle bars, sushi joints, and izakayas offering everything from mochi to steaming bowls of ramen.
Soccer supporters won’t want to miss the Museu do Futebol in the Arena Pacaembu, a beautiful old stadium in the heart of the city.
