More Singaporeans are growing older and living longer, with a life expectancy of about 83 years, according to the Department of Statistics Singapore.
Temasek’s focus here is on investments that enable people to live healthier, more meaningful lives, especially as societies age. There are also opportunities to address the needs of the growing “silver generation”, be it through improved medical treatments or novel therapies for diseases, which will require investments.

To enable people to lead healthier lives, Temasek is supporting development of novel therapies and vaccines through its investments in biotechnology companies.
One notable deal — and perhaps the one with the most profound impact on our lives right now — is its investment in BioNTech. The German biotechnology company focuses on cancer treatments and vaccines for infectious diseases, including Covid-19.
Temasek participated in a US$250 million (S$338m) investment round in BioNTech last year.
Other companies that Temasek invests in include China-based biopharma company Clover Biopharmaceuticals, and US-based Vir Biotechnology.
