Daniel Gale is a competitive snowboarder, avid skateboarder, all-around board sports enthusiast and the Executive Director for Adaptive Action Sports. He also is a Sport Organizer for both the ESPN X Games and Winter Dew Tour bringing such events to life as Adaptive Skateboard Park and Adaptive Banked Slalom. It was his partner, Amy Purdy's struggle to achieve her action sports goals despite her "dis"ability that inspired them to create Adaptive Action Sports. What has been your greatest achievement? My greatest achievement is in the creation of Adaptive Action Sports and all the amazing things that is has allowed me to do. Through AAS I have created multiple adaptive events including Adaptive Moto X, Adaptive Skateboard, Adaptive Snowcross, Adaptive SBX and Adaptive Banked Slalom at the X Games and the Dew Tour. We, with the help of several other international organizations, also influenced the International Paralympic Committee to include Snowboarding in the Paralympic Games. We have also placed over 20 athletes on the US Paralympic Snowboard Team who have collectively won 12 Paralympic medals in the last two years. What is your next ambition? Continue to grow with my wife, in business, adventure and philanthropy. How do you relax? I love being outside. For me, the most relaxing thing is to be on my motorcycle, my skateboard, snowboard or surfing. In the traditional sense, Amy and I do love a good beach day or vacation. What/Who is your biggest inspiration? My biggest inspiration is my wife! Amy continues to remain strong in the face of any obstacle in her way. She does it with grace and power that allows her to tackle it head on. How would people describe you? I'm not sure but I think they'd say that I am a total stick in the mud, a real jerk. Ha! Joking, but a hard question....I'd hope they'd say that I'm giving, fun, funny and adventurous. What would your advice be to aspiring, up and coming, athletes? My advice would be to make sure that you love what you do, set achievable and measurable goals that are realistic, realize that failure is temporary and probably small in the big picture - if you truly want to reach your goals be open to failure and learn something new and grow your 'skills' tool box everyday.
