Stuff a B&O Train with Toys – Help us stuff a train full of toys for kids! Join United Way, Greater Chesapeake Charitable Foundation, the B&O Train Museum, and DJ Kopec to collect toys for children in local hospitals, schools, and shelters. Choose a toy from our registry or make a monetary donation this fund, and join us for a virtual dance party on December 5.

Share Virtual Holiday Stories – Bring holiday hope and fun to local children by reading a holiday story that will be added to our YouTube playlist. You just need a book suitable for children about St. Nicholas, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Las Posadas, Diwali, or the December holiday that you observe. We'll share the playlist with local schools and families!

Holiday Cards for Those Facing Homelessness – Imagine moving from a home to a shelter or being on the brink of eviction this holiday season. You can bring messages of hope to those facing homelessness with holiday cards. When you sign up, we’ll send info on how to make the cards and where to send them.

Gingerbread “Home” Competition – Construct a gingerbread house for the holidays! Have your kids or co-workers help you make a gingerbread house to enter in our contest. There will be several categories for prizes! All proceeds will go towards our housing programs.

Ensure Everyone has a Home for the Holidays – Having a place to call home is one of the most basic human needs. We know that this holiday season will see a flood of evictions and a housing crisis when the hotel housing ends and people need permanent housing. (Many in shelters are currently housed in hotels to reduce COVID-19 risks.) Costs include:

$50 to buy a winter coat for a child who is facing homelessness
$100 to cover storage costs for a family during a housing transition
$500 to pay for moving costs
