RCM Spotlight Series
Kristi Lee
VP RCM
Millennium Physician Group
Meet Kristi Lee
Kristi began her career in marketing with no initial intention of entering healthcare. That changed, when she took a job with a pulmonary group in Maryland. She started in the file room/front desk learning the ropes. From there, she advanced through various roles, eventually discovering a strong passion for revenue cycle management.
She spent several years in the private healthcare sector as a Revenue Cycle Manager and Practice Administrator. As the industry evolved, her organization was acquired by a large healthcare system, where she went on to establish its first Central Business Office. After a decade, she sought a new challenge and transitioned into a Revenue Cycle Management Consultant role, traveling across the United States to help organizations improve their revenue cycle workflows.

“My main responsibilities are centered around the strategic direction of RCM to continue MPG’s growth in markets while maintaining a highly performing RCM that sustains the financial health of MPG.”
Kristi Lee
This experience led her into the value based care affiliate space, where she focused on creating new ways for primary care physicians to access value based care rates while maintaining their independence. Following COVID, as many clinics opted for acquisition, she returned to a more traditional revenue cycle management role. In January 2025, Kristi joined Millennium Physician Group as Vice President of Revenue Cycle Management, where she now leads a multi state Central Business Office team focused on driving value based care across the industry.
"Adonis is helping us to speed up collections, work ambiguous denials and quick identify the downcoded claims by payors so we can recapture revenue."

One of the biggest challenges her team faces is ensuring accurate reimbursement, particularly within capitated models. This includes keeping pace with the level of automation needed to compete with payer technology, ensuring proper compensation for the care delivered, and scaling operations effectively while maintaining strong margins.
Building a Scalable Foundation with athenahealth
Athenahealth provides a wide range of tools and data to help organize workflows. Kristi and her team leverage custom and local rules to prevent denials by scrubbing claims prior to submission, resulting in a denial rate of approximately 3 percent. They also use mismatch and cap in error reports to identify underpayments and missed payments, which has led to more than $1 million in recovered revenue to date.
Driving Improvements with Technology and Automation
Automation is Key
Technology and automation have played a critical role as volumes have grown beyond what staffing alone can support while maintaining margins. Kristi and her team recently implemented Adonis to introduce greater automation across their workflows. The platform is helping accelerate collections, address ambiguous denials, and quickly identify downcoded claims from payors to recapture revenue. Looking ahead, she is focused on expanding automation into coding and customer service, with the goal of driving additional revenue, reducing denials, improving patient satisfaction, and supporting risk based performance goals.
One of the team’s most significant recent wins has been in patient yield and time of service collections. Kristi and her team implemented a program called “Ready, Set, Collect” across forty high opportunity clinics, resulting in a 7 percent increase in time of service collections and more than $300,000 in additional revenue compared to the previous year. They closed the year with a patient yield rate of 85.7 percent. This improved training and workflow approach is now being expanded across all clinics, with steady progress toward a target patient yield rate of 92 percent this year.
"RCM needs to shift from being focused on back-end solutions to more front-end prevention. Automation will be key in
turning that process. Not just having automated tools but true automation that removes the repetitive tasks, predicts denials, and drives the changes.
Automation should reduce decisions, not just clicks, for our teams to be more efficient."
"Revenue Cycle Management is complex, it is more than just billing correctly, we must navigate constantly shifting regulations, payer rules, and become automation experts while maintaining the financial stability of our organization."
