Protecting the nation's health and wellbeing is no walk in the park – the work we do makes a real difference to our customer's lives. Around 15 million people in the UK live with long-term health conditions . Our job is to make sure our customers have the right cover for when life doesn't quite go to plan. Whether that's looking after their family when they're not around anymore, being financially secure if an illness stops them working or simply offering reassurance that they're covered if the unexpected happens. We're experts in protection but everything we do, we do for our customers. That's why we're growing a culture here at AIG that revolves solely around our customers – building our business around those who really matter, not rigid processes. Because after all, the best things in life we do for others.
Helping people live better lives is why we're here
1
As a company, we're at our best when we're doing things for others – but it's our people who make it all possible.
Working as a close-knit team, we all pull in the same direction to bring fresh thinking and innovation to the protection market.
Which is why we hire curious, creative minds to help us write the next chapters of our story.
We always look to go one better than what's been done before.
We know what can be achieved when vibrant minds come together, which is why we've built a culture to allow for exactly that.
The way we see it, there's no right or wrong way to be – we just want you to be you.
It's our ethos, our way of life, the driver for our collective successes. And best of all? Our people told us how they think the workplace should be – and we listened. Have a read of our behaviours and see how they underpin our culture, and how we work together for the benefit of our customers.
A different way of thinking
Be responsible
Be accountable
Be curious
Be real
Leave a legacy
Be human
We take ownership of our day-to-day behaviour and actions, while keeping our promises.
We behave with integrity, having open and honest conversations, actively listening to the diverse views of each other. We do this with respect, being aware of the impact we can have on people. If we have something to say, we contribute to the conversation, and don't undermine people or decisions outside of the room.
We own our actions and behaviours. We're all accountable for delivering results, growing our business for the benefit of customers. We work together to achieve it.
We put ourselves in the customers' shoes, actively seeking out and addressing what is wrong. We embrace our colleagues' diverse viewpoints and continually listen. We embrace new technology, tools, data and try new ways of doing things. Sharing knowledge enables us all to learn and grow.
We're empathetic and inclusive, helping people live better lives. We use expertise to contribute to our industry and we're active in our communities. We start from 'yes' and pay our customers' claims.
Leave 'it' in a better place. We're the guardians and custodians of customer outcomes, doing things for the right reasons.
Working at AIG is pretty great (well, we think so). But blowing our own trumpet isn't our thing – hear it from the people that matter.
Hear from the people that matter most. Our people.

I'm Neil and I lead the Commercial function at AIG Life. I enjoy sport, the outdoors and 'looking after' two kids at University. We're all passionate about ensuring everyone receives great support and service from AIG Life and that we provide products for people that protect them and their families and that we are there for every customer when it matters most.

We believe change for the better comes from diversity of opinion. That's why we've created a structure that empowers our people to have their say in those larger conversations being had here at AIG. Our trusted employee resource groups (ERGs) act as a reliable bridge of engagement between our people and the leadership team to ensure that people's voices are always heard and their questions, answered. Does this speak to you? Learn more about our ERG's and how they help us stay on the same page as a company.
Be part of the change
At AIG, we believe that diversity – of people, ideas, perspectives and skills, allows us to benefit from the creative power of our differences.
AIG Life's Diversity Council is responsible for weaving DE&I into our everyday decision-making, using their own unique perspectives to drive our business performance and strengthen our community. This means maintaining a workplace where all colleagues can bring their authentic selves to the workplace to foster a sense of belonging and inclusion. We are committed to long-term change and lasting improvements.
Diversity Council
We believe things work best when there's a connection from the top, to bottom of an organisation. That's why we have our very own Employee champions, a consultation forum who act as advocates and ambassadors of the company culture and business strategy. Think of this group as a trusted sounding board – a bridge between our people and the leadership team, and the elected representatives for formal consultation.
Employee champions
This team of wellbeing champions are trained to listen non-judgmentally and provide support to employees when needed. Meeting on a monthly basis to share updates from their areas, and get a 'temperature check' on how the employees are feeling, we also arrange events and activities to help create a culture of understanding and empathy.

The champions feed information down from leadership to employees, acting as a sounding board for business decisions – but also feed 'hot topics' from the business upwards to the leadership team. What's your 'day in the life' for your job and how does it make you feel? Everyday is different with something unexpected likely to come up – this is the interesting part of working in Change. The day usually starts with clearing emails and coming up with a to do list. I can usually expect to be in meetings for at least half of the day with the remainder spent clearing emails or speaking to people across the business. The meetings for me are usually around juggling my team's various project dependencies, finding solutions to cross company challenges or trying to progress things we could improve. What's your favourite part of working in this team? I would say the great bunch of people in the team who are all collaborative and willing to help, and put in the extra effort when needed, to ensure we deliver for the business.
Hear how we change the bigger picture
The clue is in the name – the Change team drives and supports all and any forms of business change in AIG Life by managing projects as well as smaller pieces of work, that we call work submissions. The Change team ensure projects are delivered within approved budgets and timelines to align to the Senior Leadership Team's (SLT's) strategic business priorities. We work with the business to understand their requirements and then deliver both IT and business change solutions that meet their strategic outcomes. This includes all types of projects from small IT changes to new product launches and regulatory driven changes.

Having joined straight from University, I was brand new to the industry and was really nervous to get started, however I was soon put at ease and have been welcomed in by a very supportive team. How did you know AIG was for you? I attended an open evening at AIG Life's Reigate office and once I left, I knew I really wanted to work for AIG. I immediately felt welcomed and had some great conversations with members of the sales team. It was exactly what I had been looking for and after a series of interviews I was successful and my career within AIG Life began – and the learning hasn't stopped since.

We are a small, close-knit and social team who like to have fun while we work. We have a team WhatsApp group and like to hold virtual quizzes to keep morale high, especially throughout the lockdowns. Why I love working in the marketing team? It's class. We get through a load of work and have a good laugh while we're getting it done. The opportunities. There's always opportunities to get involved with different projects, campaigns or continue your personal development with courses or events.
