Asia Pacific: A simple solution to a difficult problem
Type of Project: Interior Storage Tank - Linings
Tank/Pipe Size: From 114’ diameter x 36’ tall to
210’ diameter x 58’ tall
Service Environment: Sour water, produced water, refined product, crude oil
Temperature: varies from ambient to 160F-180F
Coating Used: Enviroline 376F-60GF
Results: Returning the tank back into service quickly was a great concern for the owner because of the high cost associated with a non-operational tank. The engineer specified Enviroline 376F based upon the excellent test results. Facility managment and operations teams were so pleased with the product and service they specified Enviroline 376F for additional tanks at the refinery.
Canada: Innovation in the lab, protection in the field
Background: One of the largest oil producing companies in Canada, needed a lining capable of resisting cargos of produced water and crude oil stored at high temperatures.
Not only this but the the cargos were to be stored at varying thermal gradients which creates a highly aggressive environment. Once lined, the facility hoped to avoid
re-entering their tanks for at least 10 years.
Solution: To find the best coating for the job, the facility performed an evaluation of Enviroline 405HTR heat resistant coating in conjunction with other high temperature coatings, all reported to be capable of meeting the facilities needs. Enviroline 405HTR performed exceptionally well in the test. The test results, coupled with the coating’s high solids, single coat, fast cure formulation, encouraged the specifier to select Enviroline 405HTR for the project. As a result, three tanks were immediately coated with Enviroline 405HTR. The coating was used to entirely line the first two tanks, a 22.9m diameter tank and a 15.3m diameter tank that each hold
produced water at a maximum operating temperature of 82ºC (180ºF). The third tank, a 38.1m diameter tank that holds sweet crude at a maximum operating temperature of 32ºC (90ºF) was lined with Enviroline 405HTR on the tank floor and 1.2m up the sides.
Middle East: Ongoing application
Maximise facility uptime: As the part of ongoing application in a Middle East Heavy Oil development project a 3000 square meter area of tank internal shell and bottom lining was recently completed.
4000 litres of material were supplied and applied in the month of June alone. This large application utlized four plural pumps with technical support supplied by International during the preperation and application.
Tank internal linings are applied in shell at 750 um and bottom at 1000 um DFT. Application and inspection of four above ground storage tanks were completed
in a single month.
USA: A fast return to service
Background: The existing coating on the interior surface of the tank failed, with the exception of the bottom side of the floating roof. The presence of a floating roof meant there
was a requirement for abrasion resistance on the walls of
the tank. Furthermore, a fast return to service was of great concern to the owner because of the high cost associated with a non-operational tank.
Solution: The bottom of the floating roof was blasted and lined first. The tank was then blasted and lined with a single coat of Enviroline 376F-60 at a thickness of 60 ml. Enviroline 376F-60 has excellent impact and abrasion resistance making it ideal for tanks with floating roofs. During a Taber Abrasion test, Enviroline 376F-60 exhibited a loss of only 20mg compared to 150mg for conventional solvent free phenolic epoxies. Furthermore it is possible to return to immersion service within 14 hours of application, therefore the customer was able to minimise the time the tank was out of operation.
