The Allen Matkins Diversity & Inclusion Committee developed a renewed and expanded Diversity Initiative to promote diversity in our workplace, in the legal profession, and in the related business community. That Initiative includes establishing and/or contributing to diversity-oriented law school scholarships and other programs. The firm’s pursuit of those action items led to the formation of The Allen Matkins Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt private charity, to be used as the vehicle to raise funds and make grants for law school scholarships, as well as other organizations and programs that promote the Foundation’s mission.
“The Allen Matkins Foundation was designed as a platform to provide opportunities for students who are academically talented and have overcome significant obstacles in life, such as socio-economic disadvantage, disability, being the first to attend college, attending under-resourced schools, or other considerable hardships and challenges.”

“I am immensely grateful for all the knowledge, experience, and encouragement the Law Fellows program has provided me. Even months after our last academy, I stay in touch with my mentor and other law fellows. The behind the scenes of making academies like these possible comes from a dedicated team and
invested supporters. ”
UCLA LAW FELLOWS PROGRAM
The Allen Matkins Foundation supports the UCLA Law Fellows Program, which provides early academic development to high-potential undergraduate students and college graduates. The program focuses on participants’ academic development, with the objective of increasing their academic competitiveness for admission to law school. A strong preference is granted to applicants whose experiences reflect limited familial exposure to post-collegiate education, career opportunities, mentoring, and social support systems. Additional consideration is given to applicants who have overcome economic and/or educational hardships and challenges, or have come from, or demonstrated leadership experience in, economically or educationally underserved communities.
The Allen Matkins UCLA Law Fellows 2025 cohort:
• Total Fellows: 89
• First-Generation College Students: 80
• Age Range: 19 to 37 years old, 11 Fellows are 28 or older
