The Foundation established endowed scholarships at both UCLA School of Law and UC Law SF, proceeds from which will be awarded each year to incoming and continuing law students who are academically talented and have overcome significant obstacles in life such as socio-economic disadvantage, disability, being the first in their family to attend college, attending under-resourced schools, or other considerable hardships or challenges.

The SoLa I CAN Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit affiliate of SoLa Impact, aims to improve the lives of South LA residents and break the cycle of intergenerational poverty by providing opportunities for education and economic mobility. SoLa provides the community with skills-based technology programming, as well as scholarships and career development opportunities for underinvested communities to ensure Black and brown Angelenos get increased access to jobs, mentorship, and placement in the most competitive fields of businesses.
SoLa Impact
The Allen Matkins Diversity & Inclusion Committee developed a renewed and expanded Diversity Initiative to promote diversity in our workplace, in the legal profession, and in the related business community. That Initiative includes a plan to establish and/or contribute to diversity-oriented law school scholarships. The Firm’s pursuit of that action item led to the formation of The Allen Matkins Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt private charity, to be used as the vehicle to raise funds and make grants for law school scholarships, as well as other organizations and programs that promote the Foundation’s mission.
“The Allen Matkins Foundation was designed as a platform to provide opportunities for students who are academically talented and have overcome significant obstacles in life, such as socio-economic disadvantage, disability, being the first to attend college, attending under-resourced schools, or other considerable hardships and challenges.”
– Jeffrey R. Patterson, Managing Partner at Allen Matkins
Ednovate
In 2012, Ednovate was co-founded by USC Rossier School of Education and CEO Oliver Sicat in an effort to redesign the American high school experience. Today, Ednovate operates six public, tuition-free, high-performing college prep charter high schools in Los Angeles and Orange County – elevating our impact by serving 2,572 students, of which 98% are students of color, 82% come from low-income households, and many of whom will be the first in their families to go to college. Since its inception, Ednovate has proudly realized a nearly 100% college acceptance rate and every one of our schools has demonstrated that we remain the network of choice for families by consistently meeting or exceeding enrollment targets for the past couple of years.
Through a personalized, high-quality education at state-of-the-art, 21st-century campuses, we are empowering Ednovate’s students to complete a college degree and pursue their dreams, lifting up their family for generations to come and making our community stronger. We call this creating a Positive Multigenerational Change.
