Mary Fordham is a valued Senior Investment Accountant here at Americo. With a love for spreadsheets and improving processes, she uses her creativity to solve problems and deliver excellent work. Outside of an affinity for numbers, Mary doesn’t fit the stereotypical accountant mold, though she’s valued in the department for her willingness to help others. She’s truly someone who lives life to the fullest, which includes hobbies like music and roller derby, and she’s constantly learning something new. We’ve been lucky to have her at Americo for almost 20 years, and we can’t wait to see what she does next.

I also appreciate that it’s a family-owned company, which is a bigger deal than most people realize. Towards the end of the internship program, the interns were able to ask a panel of employees questions about going into the career world.

On National Intern Day, the interns came to work to find a gift on their desk. This bag included some snacks and drinks as well as a card that said how much they were appreciated. After work all went to No Other Pub for a happy hour with their managers. They were able to hang out and enjoy the provided foods and drinks.

At the end of the summer the interns volunteered at Hope Lodge to serve food to those who were under going cancer treatment. This was another opportunity they got to experience the community work that Americo and IPFS do.

Wellness week
At Americo they dedicate a week to taking care of their employees minds and bodies by encouraging them to participate in a variety of activities. Some of the interns last year participated in the outdoor games and a few other activities that took place.

The interns got to start thier morning off by having coffee and donuts with both Americo and IPFS executives. This was a great event for them to practice introducing themselves and meeting more people who could protentially mentor them in the future.

During the internship program, the interns were invited to spend a day at the K! Instead of sitting at their desk, they watch a Royals baseball game from a suite. They were able to socialize with eachother while enjoying food and drinks.

Americo interns had the opportunity to have lunch with their company's CEO, Tim Stonehocker. They had the chance to ask questions and learn from someone with lots of expereince as well as form a relationship with their CEO.

About once a week the interns would join HR for a provided lunch and an opportunity to grow. Each week there was a different speaker with a new topic to teach the interns about. Some of the topics in the past were about finding a mentor, giving a good presentation, and how to brand yourself.

To celebrate the interns starting their internship at Americo they attended a Welcome Party. This event had free food and drinks for everyone who attended. This was a great opportunity for the interns to mingle with each other and other coworkers and managers.

Through shadowing different positions, participating in engaging activities, and experiencing what it’s like to work in their field, our interns mature into well-rounded professionals ready for the next step in their careers.

Many interns continue to work remotely once they return to school, and they’ll often come back to the program year after year, eventually landing a full-time position.
Selected interns must commit to a 10 to 12-week program starting in May or June.
Our program is open to applicants no matter their year in school – we want talent at any age!
We’re also open to any majors as you look to explore a professional career. We target finance, accounting, business, marketing, and IT majors, but we’ve had interns from a variety of backgrounds.
Applicants must be enrolled in a college or university or be a recent graduate.
FINDING THE RIGHT CANDIDATES
In addition to valuable work, you’ll have the chance to interact with your program peers, a “community of interns,” at events like a Royals game, softball tournament, networking receptions, and more. Plus, we provide customized learning and development opportunities focusing on the skills a young professional needs to be successful.
Be ready for a robust program that exposes you to real-life work. You’re not going on a coffee run – you’ll work alongside industry professionals that care about your experience. You can even job shadow with other teams to learn more about the company and other opportunities.
