I’m incredibly proud to be the new President and CEO of Amica, and to follow in the footsteps of Robert A. (Bob) DiMuccio. While Bob undoubtedly leaves big shoes to fill, I have a tremendous sense of excitement and enthusiasm for all that lies ahead. I’ve been with Amica for the last 15 years, and in my most recent role, I ran Amica Life Insurance Company. (If you’d like to learn a little more about my professional and personal background, you can check out my bio here.) I love Amica, I believe in what we stand for, and I’m looking forward – with the help of our employees across the country – to providing you with the products and services that make your life easier and more secure. I truly believe we have the best people in the industry. Through their knowledge, compassion and attention to detail, we strive to give you a world-class insurance experience – one that you’ll pass on to your family and friends. We’ve been building enduring relationships with policyholders for the last 115 years, and it will remain the most important piece of who we are moving forward. Thank you for trusting Amica to protect the important parts of your life. It’s a responsibility we take very seriously. Best, Edmund (Ted) Shallcross III

Unlike most script, ours stands upright, providing a more contemporary feel. We believe this gives us a nice sense of our 115-year history, our modern capabilities and our strength moving forward.
The script style gives the logo the feeling that it was handwritten, which is a nod to the personal service we provide to our customers.
There is the suggestion of an infinity loop in the “A,” which speaks to the lasting relationships we build.
But this isn’t just a logo change – it’s part of a larger effort to reflect the empathy and humanity with which we serve our customers. In fact, you’ll be seeing our new tagline – “Empathy is our best policy” – as we continue to roll out communications. Stay tuned for new advertising campaigns over the next several months. In the meantime, the video below gives you a sense of what’s new and what remains the same. We’re honored that you’ve chosen to place your trust in Amica, and hope you have peace of mind in knowing we’re there for you when you need us.

Winter can bring harsh storms and extremely cold temperatures, causing the pipes in your home to freeze. Ultimately, frozen pipes could burst, leading to major plumbing problems. Here are some ways you can prepare your pipes for winter:
Cover exposed piping with foam insulation strips to keep them protected in the cold weather.
Further insulate your house by leaving garage doors shut when not in use, and sealing cracks or holes that bring in cold airflow.
Frost-proof outdoor faucets and remove garden hoses from their spouts.
Leave cabinet doors open with visible piping so your home’s heat flows there, as well.
If you own a second home, you should take steps to help prevent frozen pipes there, too. In addition to the tips above, set your thermostat to between 50 and 60 degrees while you’re away, depending on your pipe layout, home’s insulation and location. However, the temperature only needs to be maintained if the house isn’t winterized with the plumbing drained. For a full list of ways to winterize your home and property, click here.

It may seem trivial, but if you’re stranded in your car, you might be looking for a way to pass the time. Consider packing a deck of cards or other form of entertainment to help stave off boredom until you can get back on your way.
Keep a spare tire and jack (if your vehicle doesn’t have them), jumper cables, road flares, an ice scraper, a portable cellphone charger, and sand or cat litter (to add traction for your tires if your vehicle gets stuck in the mud or snow).

November has always been a special time at Amica. Since 2017, we’ve coined it our “Month of Giving,” encouraging our employees and the community to give thanks and give back. Here are some of the ways we did that this year:
“Amica is proud to partner with Feeding America again to support our neighbors facing hunger,” said Nicole Bailey, Amica’s Corporate Social Responsibility and Events Manager. “We couldn’t make this impact alone, and are grateful for the support of our employees, customers and the public, who, through their generosity, made the drive an incredible success.”
Our offices across the country also engaged in some friendly competition to see who could collect the most canned goods for other local food banks. In all, employees collected 23,308 food items.
We raised more than $30,000 to support Feeding America, a network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs that, together, serve over 40 million people. (To learn more about Feeding America, click here.) For the third consecutive year, employees, customers and members of the public “donated” by sharing Amica’s annual Thanksgiving e-card. For each share of the e-card, Amica gave $1 to Feeding America. This year’s card features the original painting “Maple Lights” by artist Erin Hanson of Oregon.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. In a large bowl, combine the sweet potatoes, melted butter, sugar, packed brown sugar, eggs, milk, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix well. Spoon or pour into a 13-by-9-inch dish. Bake uncovered for 20 to 25 minutes. Combine the cornflakes, walnuts, brown sugar and softened butter. Sprinkle over the potatoes and return them to the oven for five to 10 minutes, or until the topping is light brown.
As we gather with family and friends this holiday season, we wanted to share one of our recipes from the Amica Family Cookbook, a collection of employees’ favorite dishes. Enjoy!
1 tsp. cinnamon ½ tsp. nutmeg 1 c. cornflakes, crushed ½ c. walnuts, chopped ¼ c. brown sugar ¼ c. butter, softened
2 c. sweet potatoes, mashed ½ c. butter, melted ¼ c. sugar ¼ c. brown sugar, packed 2 eggs, beaten ½ c. milk

Additional Transportation Expense coverage pays the cost of a rental car or alternate transportation like buses, taxis, Uber or Lyft. Your auto insurance policy may already include some of this protection, or you may need to add it for an additional premium. While coverages vary by state, there’s usually a limit on how much an insurance company will pay for a rental car after an accident. This could be a set amount of, say, $20/day to a total of $600, or a total amount alone, like $900 or more. Keep in mind it’s rare to find a rental vehicle for less than $30/day these days, with the majority of rentals costing more than $40/day. Check your policy to make sure the amount of coverage is enough for your substitute transportation needs. If the rental car you choose costs more, or you need to use it for longer, you’d have to pay out of pocket for any charges exceeding the limits. Most insurers also offer higher coverage limits you can purchase – perhaps up to $50/day and $1,500 total coverage, for example.
It’s bad enough you had a wreck, but now your car will be in the repair shop for at least three weeks! How do you get to work? Drive your children where they need to go? Run errands?
Finally, keep in mind that your car must be getting repaired because of a loss covered by your policy. Rental reimbursement doesn’t apply to routine maintenance or a vacation rental car − and you still have to pay for gas. So don’t leave yourself unprotected. If you’re interested in adding Additional Transportation Expense to your auto policy, or increasing your coverage, Amica representatives are here to help. Give us a call at 800-242-6422 or visit Amica.com to learn more.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car reports that the average length of collision replacement-related rentals was 18 days for the first quarter of 2022. That’s nearly five days longer than the same quarter in 2021. Backlogs at body shops, supply chain issues, fewer technicians, and the complexity and prices of vehicles are among the reasons why.* Renting a car is an obvious solution. It can also be an expensive one, particularly over an extended period. Additional Transportation Expense coverage can help.
Some online car retailers let you secure financing and sign purchase agreements virtually. But depending on where you shop, you may need to visit a dealership to finalize your purchase. Ask a customer service representative or sales manager which steps to complete online, and if any must be done in person.
Carvana and Vroom (as well as other online retailers) have created a completely digital purchasing process. This means that once you buy the car, they’ll deliver it to you. As a result, you don’t have the option to test drive vehicles in person. But if you find a car online using CarMax or Autotrader, you can usually set up an appointment for a test drive.
If you don’t have an auto policy, now is the time to explore coverage options, get a quote and protect yourself/others in your vehicle. Amica offers online quotes for top-of-the-line auto insurance policies.
Research cars online. Don’t rush this step; your research may lead you to buy a car you never thought you’d own. It also helps to write down questions and use the chat feature (if available) to talk with online sales managers.
Set a realistic budget first. Consider if you can buy a car outright or if you’ll need a loan with a monthly payment. Next, outline the key features you need in a vehicle.
Dreaming of purchasing a new (or used) car without visiting multiple dealerships? Here’s the solution: Shop for a car from the comfort of your home via the internet. Follow the steps below to help make the process as seamless as possible.
Shopping for a car online is no longer a distant concept. Now that you know how, why not get started? You may find the perfect car today.
Leaves piling up on your car can also clog your air conditioning systems or exhaust pipes. If the leaves begin to rot while stuck inside your car’s parts, they become even more difficult to remove and start to smell.
Be especially wary of maple and oak trees. However, the most damaging tree to your car is a pine tree – they have the highest acid content.
Experts suggest picking them up with your hands or using a leaf blower on the light setting. Don’t use a broom.
Falling leaves can scratch your paint, leaving your car susceptible to rust and water damage. Decaying leaves can also harm a vehicle's paint, and wet or rotting leaves speed up this process.
If you have a car you’re not driving much, it's best to avoid parking it under trees.

Amica is proud to partner with both the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and private flood insurance partners. While the NFIP offers excellent coverage, it’s important to remember that private flood insurance has many benefits. These may include higher limits, additional living expense coverage and reduced waiting periods to obtain coverage.

While no one wants to think about dying, choosing to not discuss the situation doesn’t make it go away. Financially preparing for the unexpected and creating a financial safety net while your children are still young may help them through each milestone of growing up. That preparation begins with choosing the correct policy type. Ask yourself the following questions:
life insurance policy to make sure everyone is protected.
Do I have a financial plan to cover my final expenses?
Do I anticipate my children living with me beyond their 20s?
Do I think my children will need financial assistance with a college education?
Do I have any outstanding debts, like a mortgage?
As your family grows, so will your financial responsibilities. With all the expenses of having a baby, it’s easy for new and established parents to let life insurance fall through the cracks. If life insurance is something you and your partner think you should have, make the important decision to take care of it today.
Whether you already own a policy and are looking to update it, or are thinking of purchasing life insurance, a 20-, 25- or 30-year term policy can help protect your children while they still depend on you financially. For those seeking a permanent type of coverage, a whole life policy is a good option because it can be in place for the rest of your life, as long as premiums are paid.

Taking the time to review any current coverage you may have is a good way to ensure you’re financially preparing for the unexpected. Creating a financial safety net early on can help to account for the milestones your children experience while growing. Choosing the right coverage begins by asking yourself a few simple questions:
