PROUD TO CALL IT HOME
Then
For the past few months, life has been anything but normal. While our nation faces the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, unprecedented unemployment rates, and a reckoning with centuries of systemic racism, we have also seen our community come together to tackle these issues and support one another. Our favorite bands perform in their driveways with masks, while maintaining six-feet between them. Our neighbors uplift mutual aid in unique ways, including community fridges. Our actions and responses as a community show the world, we are PROUD to call New Orleans our home.
Our city is resilient, our citizens resourceful, but our work is not done. It seems now, more than ever, the unifying pride that runs through our community is essential to navigating the response and recovery of our city.
How we deliver our proud promise to invigorate our city will be a bit different during the COVID-19 pandemic; we envision our neighborhoods filled with "Proud to Call It Home" flags flying from front porches, enlivening a background where New Orleanians distantly greet their neighbors or run essential errands, and together we will spread our "Proud to Call It Home" message throughout our city.
We're Proud, 30 Years and Counting
Back in 1994, YLC launched its famous "New Orleans: Proud to Call It Home" campaign to reinvigorate enthusiasm in the Crescent City among its residents and throughout the world.
Now, as YLC nears its 35th anniversary, we're bringing the campaign back as a way to reflect on how far we have come as a community and to inspire us all to keep working to improve our home—together.

Pride . . . and Hard Work
The "Proud to Call It Home" campaign also pays tribute to the hard work we've put in as a community. In addition to a robust business climate, New Orleans has also maintained its cultural draws like music and art. Indeed, we're proud to live, work, and play in New Orleans because of all it offers us. In turn, we're proud to continue working hard to keep the city on an upward trajectory. Next time you see our "Proud to Call It Home" campaign—perhaps on a bumper sticker or a
t-shirt—take a moment to reflect on why you're proud to call New Orleans home, too!

Today, we are closer to the brighter future envisioned by that campaign: New Orleans is an entrepreneurial incubator, a top home for talented young professionals, and a city of monumental growth. We first brought back the slogan in 2010 to keep positivity alive and well after Hurricane Katrina. Since then, New Orleans has given us more reasons every day that we're "Proud to Call It Home."
A Brighter Future

Positivity from the Start
When YLC first developed its "Proud to Call It Home" campaign, New Orleans faced many challenges. Perceptions about the Crescent City failed to highlight its potential, but young professionals recognized that the city was a space full of opportunities and success. By leveraging hometown pride—for New Orleans natives and newcomers alike—"Proud to Call It Home" united us all to build and invest in the community we called home.
