1981

AspenTech is founded in 1981, after MIT’s chemical engineering group received a U.S. Department of Energy grant to study technical innovation in the process industries in response to the 1970’s energy crisis.

AspenTech releases its first product – Aspen Plus . Today, Aspen Plus is the #1 software product for chemical process modeling.

1982

AspenTech becomes a publicly traded company on the Nasdaq Stock Market.

1994

The first planning software for refineries is released. Today, Aspen PIMS is used to plan three quarters of the world's refining feedstock.

1984

1996

AspenTech begins a series of acquisitions. Over the next several years, AspenTech acquires over 25 best-of-breed companies to expand its portfolio of optimization products in manufacturing and supply chain as well as engineering.

Initial release of aspenONE software brings together integrated suites of optimization products across engineering, manufacturing and supply chain functions.

2004

AspenTech opens R&D Quality Assurance center in Shanghai, China.

2006

2009

AspenTech releases aspenONE software in nine languages—Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish—adding to the existing English version.

AspenTech launches aspenONE Desktop package, enabling small- to medium-sized engineering companies to utilize the same aspenONE software used by the world's largest process manufacturing companies.

2012

AspenTech named to Forbes magazine’s list of the World’s Most Innovative Growth Companies.

2014

AspenTech releases aspenONE Asset Performance Management (APM) product suite, an industry-first complete suite for site, process and equipment performance management.

2017

AspenTech acquires OptiPlant to further strengthen its solutions for owner-operators and EPCs in the process industries.

2020

In May, the initial Emerson transaction is completed giving the company a 55% stake in AspenTech. The integration of OSI, Inc. and E&P Software provides new capabilities for Digital Grid Management and Subsurface Science & Engineering. Later that year, AspenTech acquires inmation software to strengthen ability to help customers realize maximum business value from industrial data.

2022

AspenTech acquires Open Grid Systems Limited, a global provider of network model management technology, combining industry-leading asset optimization software with advanced power grid management solutions.

Emerson completes the transaction to acquire all the outstanding shares of Aspen Technology, Inc. With the completion of the acquisition, AspenTech is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Emerson.
