PARENTS SAY:
There’s no one-size-fits-all strategy for feeding your baby. In fact, more than half of the moms we surveyed use a version of combination feeding. The most important thing is to find out what works best for you and your baby.
Read on for feeding advice and challenges straight from the BabyCenter community.
At the end of the day, it just matters that your baby is fed – whether that be breast milk, formula, or some combination of both. Don’t sacrifice your mental health if breastfeeding isn’t working for you. Your baby needs a happy and healthy mama!
Just feed your baby. Doesn’t matter how, with what, when – just feed your baby when they’re hungry. If they’re cluster feeding, that’s okay. If they eat every hour, that’s okay. As long as they are happy and gaining weight, literally nothing else matters.
If you know you’ll need to give a bottle eventually, talk with your lactation consultant about how to introduce it early enough so you won’t face the problem of baby refusing the bottle.
If Dad wants to give you a break so you can sleep, it’s okay to give a bottle of breast milk or formula. You will need the break, and bonding over feeding is important for fathers, too.
My little one is sensitive to too much dairy. We’ve had her on gentle formula, which has reduced lactose.
Every night he was in pain from gas and had a hard time pooping. We had a sample of Enfamil NeuroPro Sensitive and he was a different baby after one bottle.
I changed to NeuroPro Gentlease and, oh my gosh, what a difference! My baby was less gassy, and I’ve been using NeuroPro Gentlease ever since!
We tried other brands, but Enfamil NeuroPro Gentlease was the only one our little girl could tolerate. She had a ton of gas when she was born and this was a tremendous help.
She has acid reflux so we slow her feedings, hold her upright for at least 15 minutes after eating, and use gas drops. The pediatrician will prescribe acid reflux meds when she is a little older. I nurse and supplement with formula.
