On the ground, the ELLE Australia team, including Editor-in-Chief Jessica Bailey, Fashion Director Naomi Smith, Digital Beauty & Fashion Editor Ruby Feneley, and Social Editor Kiera Sylvester, greeted readers, handing out custom ELLE canvas totes, fresh blooms, and copies of the latest issue while chatting all things style and beauty.
“Lumière d’Issey perfectly captures the spirit of the ELLE woman,” noted Bailey. “It’s about an effortless, luminous approach to modern living: bright, optimistic, and uplifting to be around.”
For those who missed the opening morning, the Issey Miyake activation remains open at Pitt Street Mall through Sunday, August 2.
ELLE Australia editors will return for a second meet-and-greet on Wednesday, July 29.
Issey Miyake and ELLE Australia celebrate the launch of Lumière d’Issey with an exclusive Sydney pop-up.
n a cool, crisp July morning, the air along Sydney’s bustling Pitt Street Mall was laced with the scent of green mandarin and freesia. ELLE Australia partnered with Issey Miyake to host the first of two exclusive reader activations
in the heart of the CBD to celebrate the launch of the French-Japanese house’s newest feminine fragrance, Lumière d’Issey.
The fragrance marks a luminous new chapter for the iconic brand, shifting its lens from liquid elements to the radiance of pure light. Joining the modern wave of solar scents — read: perfumes crafted to evoke the vitality of a sun-drenched morning — Lumière d'Issey opens with a sparkling burst of natural orange blossom and green mandarin. It softens into shimmering freesia and white musk before settling into a creamy base of pistachio wood accord and Australian sandalwood. The result is a gentle, radiant interpretation of a classic citrus floral.
Bringing this warmth to Pitt Street, the immersive activation gave visitors a chance to discover their light. Passersby lined up to try their luck at an interactive Issey Miyake claw machine — stocked with travel minis and full-sized flacons — and explored the fragrance’s layered notes at the scent discovery station.

same avant-garde spirit to beauty in 1992 with the release of L’Eau d’Issey. At a time when the late ’80s and early ’90s were still saturated with heavy, resinous perfumes, Miyake introduced something unprecedented: a crisp, aquatic composition housed in a sleek, frosted-glass cone. It was poetic, weightless, and perfectly heralded fashion’s shift toward pure minimalism.
Decades later, Miyake’s legacy continues to evolve while remaining anchored to his founding philosophy—that nature itself is "the greatest perfumer." Every iteration since has drawn inspiration from the elements, capturing raw natural beauty and translating it for the modern wardrobe. With Lumière d’Issey, fragrance enthusiasts are invited to step into the sun and drench themselves in light.
