THROUGH
Viewing ourselves through our children’s eyes lends a kinder perspective, one we should learn from
Women often view themselves through the harshest of lenses. To offer our editors a new perspective, we gave them the opportunity to view themselves through their children’s eyes. Let this be a reminder to all women...
What emerged was a powerful moment of retrospection. Our kids don’t notice our flaws, but they do notice how we carry ourselves—the confidence to live life to the fullest that evolves as we move through different chapters of life. As we age, however, the way we feel about ourselves can become increasingly tied to how we look and feel.
L’Oréal Paris empowers women to feel their best, most confident selves at every age. The Age Perfect range helps you to embrace the same radiance and beauty your children already see in you.

“Nothing compares to the love they give me.”
THEIR EYES
The best thing about being a mum is that unbreakable bond you have with your childrenGetting the opportunity to see yourself through your children’s eyes can help to put everything into perspective. For Hunwick, seeing her boys’ answers “made me stop and think about my role in their lives. It made me feel seen by them,” and even realise that she is “doing a good job at being their mum”. It’s because of this newfound understanding that she was able to see herself in a kinder light. It “helped me understand that they see the love I give them, and they don’t worry when things don’t go perfectly to plan”. And even though they might be young, “their sweet words make me think that they see me as a complete human.”
Now, she’s been able to stop and focus “on things on a more macro scale. My sons’ happiness and our relationship is far more important than worrying too much over the tiny details.” The unbreakable love between a mother and her children is “enough to get through anything”.

Maybe we’re perfect just the way we are
As mothers we share a lot of ‘mum guilt’, whether it’s forgetting mufti day or letting them stay up too late. McCourt, however, is ready to show herself kindness, saying “we’re all guilty of negative self-talk,” but it’s important to remember that “as long as they feel loved and safe” you’re doing a good job.
Getting to view herself through her daughters’ eyes served as a nice reminder of how loved she is. And “even though parenting is relentless and exhausting, you’ve got little humans who think the world of you. There’s really no better feeling in the world than the love you get from your kids.” It’s their incomparable sweet and loving nature (with a few years of her own wisdom) that makes it easier for McCourt to realise that we can just be human, because “maybe we’re perfect just the way we are”.
