Regional manufacturing Outlook 2020
WEST MIDLANDS
The West Midlands generates 16% of its output from manufacturing, with Transport Equipment accounting for over a third of the regions manufacturing GVA.
EAST OF ENGLAND
In 2019, the East of England accounted for 7% of the UK’s total goods exports, with 49% of all exported goods going to the EU.
NORTHERN IRELAND
Northern Ireland’s largest sub-sector is Food & Drink, accounting for 27% of the country's manufacturing GVA.
SOUTH EAST & LONDON
The largest
sub-sector in the region is the Electronics industry, accounting for 15.6% of all manufacturing output. This is followed by Food & Drink at 14.5%.
SOUTH WEST
There were 245,000 manufacturing jobs in the South West in 2019, accounting for 8% of the region’s total workforce.
WALES
There were 153,000 manufacturing jobs in Wales in 2019, accounting for 10% of the region’s total workforce.
EAST MIDLANDS
The largest
sub-sector in the East Midlands in terms of output is the Food & Drink industry, accounting for 22.9% of all manufacturing output.
YORKSHIRE & HUMBER
Yorkshire & Humber is the UK’s seventh largest region in terms of GVA, generating 14% of its output from manufacturing.
NORTH EAST
There were 116,000 manufacturing jobs in the North East in 2019, accounting for 10% of the region’s total workforce.
NORTH WEST
Manufacturing productivity in the North West is at 118.2% of the UK average, ranking 1st across all regions and nations.
SCOTLAND
Scotland generates approximately 11% of its output from manufacturing, above the UK average of 10%.
