Regional manufacturing Outlook 2021
The West Midlands generates 15.4% of its output from manufacturing, with Transport Equipment accounting for over a third of the regions manufacturing GVA.
EAST OF ENGLAND
The East of England accounted for 9% of the UK’s total goods exports with 46% of the regions manufacturing exports going to the EU.
SOUTH EAST & LONDON
The South East and London accounts for 26% of the UK’s total goods exports and its top 3 export markets were the EU, North America and Asia & Oceania.
There were 227,000 manufacturing jobs in the South West in 2020, accounting for 8% of the region’s total workforce.
Wales generates approximately 16.8% of its output from manufacturing and its top 3 subsectors are Transport Equipment, Food & Drink and Metal Products.
The largest subsector in the East Midlands is the Food & Drink industry, accounting for 22.6% of all manufacturing output.
YORKSHIRE & HUMBER
Yorkshire & Humber is the UK’s seventh largest region in terms of GVA, generating 14.2% of its output from manufacturing.
There were 105,000 manufacturing jobs in the North East in 2020, accounting for 9% of the region’s total workforce.
The North West is the UK’s second largest region in terms of GVA, generating 14.6% of its output from manufacturing.
Scotland generates 10.6% of its output from manufacturing with 18% of manufacturing exports going to Asia & Oceania.
