THE Challenge
The FRINGE team was brought in after DGA's design and another furniture vendor had selected and ordered furniture. They were missing the final touches that brought this space together and set it apart from other amenity buildings. The walls were outfitted with venetian plaster, but there were massive walls that needed creative design elements. This was the most modern building BioMed Realty had ever done and they were looking to not only keep up but surpass their competition.
project overview
MODA Sorrento is an amenity building for the BioMed Realty campus in Sorrento Valley. bkm's FRINGE division worked on several spaces including a Golf Simulator, Indoor/Outdoor Cafe and training rooms. The design centered around inspiration from the Sonoran Desert. Dusty desert tones, textural wood, cane details and venetian plaster were all integral elements to the space. FRINGE suported this project by providing the Greenery, Accessories, Pillows/Cushions, and Art/Sculpture elements.

The FRINGE team brought unique design elements to the space. We worked to tie every selection back to the Sonoran Desert concept and stayed true to the original design intent. One-of-a-kind pottery pieces were procured to add volume to open shelving and ledges, pillows and small accessories added layers of interest to each space without compromising function and provided inspiration for co-working and collaboration. In the training rooms, we installed trailing wall baskets procured directly from handmade artisans. Each basket arrived with a handwritten note from the creator. The branches in the corridor were procured directly from a tree in California and sandblasted/preserved with care. Our team knew uniqueness was very important on this project and therefore each piece had a story to tell.

Collaborating with BioMed Realty and DGA on this project was an absolute dream. Their vision for this space was so refreshing and our favorite part of the project was the client's reaction at the end. FRINGE makes such a difference!
