About the CLIENT
UC Riverside's Student Sucess Center is a new three-story, 60,000-square-foot building featuring a mix of classrooms, small- to large-sized lecture halls, multipurpose rooms, student study areas, meeting rooms, and a student lounge. One of the most unique features of the project is the campus' first in the round lecture hall with seating for 400 people, that offers a TED Talks-style environment for teaching and allow for larger seating capacity.
project overview
The University’s overarching goal was to provide students with a warm and inviting place to learn, study and socialize. With this in mind, the Student Success Center was designed with an open and airy atrium, referred to as the Paseo, which is the signature space that connects all three levels of the building. Combined with three lecture halls integrated with the latest technology, success came from the connections created between the classroom and student life spaces as a single and cohesive unit. bkm provided all furniture on this project.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this entire project was designed virtually using bkm's live design software. The first time the bkm team met many of the projects design and build team in person was during the projects installation. This project taught us a lot about our ability to collaborate virtually out of necessity. Most of the learnings that came about from this project guides our approach to designing with disparate teams today.

“As the first new classroom building constructed on campus in many decades, the Student Success Center is a transformative project,” said Jacqueline Norman, campus architect. “Truly a student-focused and flexible building, it is a beautiful and functional home base for students during their days on campus."
