I focus on creating a memorable experience for my clients, both in the studio and on wedding days, fostering a relaxing environment where women feel confident and their best selves.
How does your space communicate your VIBE or BRAND?
Some of the industry’s premiere furnishing brands, including SalonCentric and Minerva Beauty, also offered options for that oh-so-instrumental element, the salon chair.
These salon spaces blend form and function, turning a suite into a sanctuary or a happening spot. And individual furnishings elevate both comfort and efficiency, optimizing how you work while enhancing your business’s professionalism.
Our artist’s inspiring examples can help you craft a salon suite that not only meets your needs but leaves a lasting impression on every client who walks through the door.
Designing a salon suite goes far beyond functionality—it's about creating an atmosphere that reflects both the beauty pro’s vision and the client’s desire for a welcoming experience.
Whether you're starting with a blank canvas or giving your existing suite a fresh new look, every design choice says something about you, your work, and what you hope the client will take away from being in your space.
We asked several salon professionals to talk about how the layout of their salon suite, and the furnishings chosen, created a salon space that exudes style, relaxation, and creativity.

What are the THREE MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENTS you wanted to get right in your salon—and why?
Lighting: As a makeup artist, lighting is everything. Both studio and natural light can drastically change the appearance of my work, so it’s essential for brides to see how they’ll look in various lighting conditions. Plus, great lighting helps me capture stunning photos of my hairstyling.
Functional Space: After years of working in salons suites, I found that I often lacked the surface area and storage for my makeup and tools. My studio is designed with ample space, thanks to customizable IKEA wardrobes that keep everything organized and out of sight when needed, helping to maintain a calm atmosphere.
Office: The business side of being a hairstylist is always present, so having a functional office space was non-negotiable. I created a quiet corner, complete with a wall my husband built, where I can manage the backend of being a stylist.
Thoughtful salon design decisions communicate your vibe and vision.

BRIDAL BEAUTY & ELEVATED ARTISTRY
My studio reflects the vibe of my bridal business, Glambox Artistry, with a lighted vanity mirror and a bright, clean look, it showcases the glam yet subtle style of my hair and makeup services. I focus on creating a memorable experience for my clients, both in the studio and on wedding days, fostering a relaxing environment where women feel confident and their best selves.
What is YOUR FAVORITE ELEMENT inside your space?
My favorite elements are the white walls and furniture. The calming atmosphere feels like a blank slate, allowing me to create something new with each session. It also feels incredibly clean, and I diffuse essential oils to enhance the experience, making the overall atmosphere refreshing and cleansing. Plus, when it comes to photography, the white backdrop provides a true and accurate representation of my work.
What FEATURE or FURNISHINGS was your biggest investment?
My biggest investment has been in branding. I’m always evolving and adding new features to enhance my offerings. Since I provide luxury services, I strive to go the extra mile and create a memorable experience for my clients. It’s not just about doing hair and makeup; it’s about reflecting their personality and style, which truly sets me apart from other stylists.
And did you have fun with any DIY PROJECTS or BUDGET design elements?
My husband built a wall, and I added a personal touch by covering it with wallpaper. This created a dedicated office corner, and the back side serves as a clean but stylish background for capturing content. This added both functionality and character to my space.
ANY EXTRA DETAILS you would like to share?
After years working in salon suites, my current studio is the first space where I truly feel equipped to work smarter, not harder. With nearly 200 square feet, every inch is designed with purpose. In today’s world, many spaces feel repetitive and alike, but I genuinely believe my studio reflects me and my brand, Glambox Artistry. You can feel the cohesive vibe from the background of my studio when you scroll through my Instagram.

What are the THREE MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENTS you wanted to get right in your salon—and why?
A peaceful, calming, and homey vibe that makes people feel at ease was essential. I wanted a space that feels current and cute while being comfortable and welcoming—a place where clients can truly relax.
Lighting is crucial! It impacts every step, from applying color or extensions to observing processing and final results. Good lighting also ensures the client can fully appreciate their color and is key for photos.
Plenty of storage and thoughtful touches to make stylists’ lives easier.

It’s definitely my green sofa! Every client comments on it. It adds a cozy, inviting touch that stands out and gives the space character.

Honestly, the styling chairs and shampoo bowl which were chosen for both their aesthetic appeal and comfort. But they definitely weren’t cheap.

What are the THREE MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENTS you wanted to get right in your salon—and why?
After creating studios in the past and opening our studios in our new location (which just opened August 1,2024) we felt that the missing link within a studio environment was the lack of community. We created a communal shampoo and processing area with an atrium feel where the stylists see each other on a regular basis throughout the day. This generates community and conversation.
My studio reflects my personal style which I would describe as eclectic, colorful, and refined.
How does your space communicate your VIBE or BRAND?
Our space is in the most tranquil center in all the Conejo Valley. The center has a water feature and palm trees from end-to-end inviting relaxation. We created a vibe that is organic and unique with private rooms, wood ceilings, wood floors, architectural and structural beams throughout. We’ve added plants and art to keep it feeling warm and inviting.
What is YOUR FAVORITE ELEMENT inside your space?
My favorite element inside our space is the layout and decor. Being able to let the building speak to us we were able to feature some of the most beautiful elements in the building. For example, the wood ceilings, wood beams, and windows on three sides of the building to let in the light and the beautiful scenery in the center.
What FEATURE or FURNISHINGS was your biggest investment?
The stylist’s biggest investment would probably be a key piece of storage such as an armoire. The studios provide a station, styling mirror, storage cabinets, and styling chair. This enables the stylist to put their effort and money into a beautiful individual and unique piece of furniture or art, making their studio their own.
The Salon Studios in Westlake Village, CA are a location of salon suites that prove the popularity of this working model in California and beyond. Owner Denise Rasbury shares some of the things that make her location special.
“We are a small 14 room boutique studio. In keeping it in the family, our onsite manager is also my son,” Rasbury says. “He is onsite to help mentor stylists, answer questions, be available to get repairs done and also has his own hair studio in the front so he can keep an eye on the front door at all times. Collaborating with him on design and function was key to this buildout keeping it all relevant to the professional.”

Specialty: We offer a team of talented stylists skilled in all aspects of cutting, styling, and aesthetic treatments, including lash extensions, brow design, microneedling, microdermabrasion, and a full range of facials. Our expert manicurist provides gel nails and intricate, hand-painted nail art. We also carry a selection of hair extensions for purchase, and our stylists specialize in extensions, Brazilian blowouts, and more. Leading our team, our onsite manager brings expertise from Vidal Sassoon in Beverly Hills, with a specialty in precision haircutting. Additionally, we have a stylist who focuses on hair transformations for clients experiencing thinning hair or alopecia, providing specialized hair restoration solutions.
Lighting is key. Most of our studios have windows and /or natural light which is great for color services. We did put in special lighting. Our general lighting which has a daylight rating, also adding a sphere pendant over and in front of the client. This creates a warmer look to the skin while avoiding dark circles and shadows under the eye area.
Space is also key. Coming out of the pandemic we realized that people in general would prefer more distance between guests and space to accommodate more than one guest or have an assistant in your studio. With creating a communal shampoo atrium this freed up space within the studio for another guest chair and more room in general.
