MEET
If you’re a colorist with an endless appetite for the creative possibilities of hair color, you may think you’ve seen it all. Vivid color, neon color, pastel color. Ombré, reverse ombré, dip-dye, pointillism, stenciling. Is there anything new under the sun to feed your constant craving for color innovation? Presenting (insert drum roll here)…Colour Alchemy from Schwarzkopf Professional. Even the most rabid creative color enthusiasts have never seen anything like this before.
Inspired by nature and designed with science, Colour Alchemy is a completely innovative approach to hair color. Prismatic and iridescent, it’s a temporary hair color that produces bright tones and holographic reflections on even the darkest hair, without the need to pre-lift. What’s more, this color is actually responsive—think of it as a mood ring for the hair. It creates unique holographic effects in response to changes in temperature and light, including sunlight, body temperature, heat from a thermal tool or even a cooling wind or warming breath.
“This stuff is magic in a bottle!” says Kelsey Pebler, @bohobrushed. “It creates instant dimensional color without any commitment. All you have to do is apply it to the surface of the hair. The technology is equal parts futuristic and magic and the creative possibilities are endless!”
Meet Colour Alchemy:
prismatic, responsive, temporary hair color that reacts to temperature.

Colour Alchemy:
is it magic? Is it science? It’s a little of both!
THE ALCHEMISTS: THE UNSEEN AND LAURA BOWKER
It takes intense creativity and vision to come up with a brand-new hair color concept, which is why Schwarzkopf Professional partnered with T H E U N S E E N, a consultancy, innovation lab and product development studio comprised of talented thinkers in design, science and technology.
Unseen Alchemist, Founder and Creative Director Laura Bowker led the project. Bringing her experience with material science to capture encapsulated organic substances that adhere to the hair surface like micro prisms to create dimensional, holographic reflections in an interplay with light, and crystals that change their structure when activated by temperature within a pre-defined spectrum.
“I achieved the look by creating a smooth canvas with a sleek bun and then simply painting a thin layer of color on the side of my hair,”
“As an artist, I couldn’t wait to try it,” says Maggie Hancock, @MaggieMH, who was one of the first to get her hands on Colour Alchemy. “How could you not want to work with it? It's such an exciting new technology!”

THE 5 SHADES OF COLOUR ALCHEMY
As you would expect, the five Color Alchemy shades are anything but ordinary! They are inspired by elements that reflect the prismatic, reflective characteristics of the color. Choose from Scarab, Peacock, Borealis, Andrite and Phoenix—all of which are dramatic creatures and elements culled from nature. These temporary colors last for one wash.
Pebler reached for three shades—Peacock, Borealis and Andrite—to create her stencil design. “This product is so perfect for festival hair and the Euphoria vibes that everyone loves,” she explains, “and I thought prints of flowers and butterflies would be super dreamy. I used Peacock, Borealis and Andrite.
“The holographic effects are more intense on levels 1-6, so I chose a model with level 5 hair. To turn the hair into a canvas, I flat-ironed it and then applied hairspray to keep it in place. You don’t want to apply product over the Colour Alchemy, because it will dull the effects, so I applied the hairspray first. I held the flower stencil tight against the hair and used a dabbing motion with a mini beauty blender to apply the product. For a crisper print, don’t overuse the product because it can bleed under the stencil. A little goes a long way! Lift the stencil off the hair slowly and you’ll have a beautiful flower design! I repeated this around the head using the different shades and different flower prints. With Color Alchemy you will see the print no matter what!”
Whether you’re creating look for a festival, a photo shoot, a concert or just looking to feed your own creativity, Colour Alchemy gives you a brand new “toybox” of unique shades and formulas that will unleash your imagination. Dive deeper into Color Alchemy.

Borealis, one of the five Colour Alchemy shades, is inspired by the aurora borealis, a phenomenon that occurs when solar wind electrons interact with the Earth’s atmosphere.
