Oribe Canales was born in Cuba, but immigrated to North Carolina with his family when he was still a young boy and was influenced by the glitz and glamour he grew up watching on television. It wasn’t until he settled in Buffalo, New York and gained his first experience as a hairdresser that he realized his hands were able to create the glamour that so inspired him.
Canales’ skills were undeniable, and before he knew it, he had launched himself into hairdressing stardom. He was booking magazine covers, styling models behind the scenes of high-end fashion shows, and breathing new life into the look of the supermodel. Oribe Canales, known simply as Oribe, quickly became one of the greatest talents in hair.
His style was bigger than life, permeating throughout the industry and inspiring everyone around him—he changed the way we look at hair. “Oribe Canales was a visionary and could see the glamour in any look,” remembers Kien Hoang, Principal Artist of Global Design for Oribe who worked closely with Oribe Canales during his career. “He saw hair as a way to empower women, instill confidence, and how having great hair could make you feel beautiful. He inspired people to push the limits of styling, in part by teaching that inspiration is all around us, we just have to look closely. He taught us not only to see what was, but what could be.”

Oribe Hair Care Honors Oribe Canales,
Legendary Stylist and
New Limited Edition Launch of its Cult-Classic Dry Texturizing Spray
with
Brand Co-Founder
In honor of Oribe Hair Care’s co-founder and namesake, the brand is excited to share the launch of Dry Texturizing Spray Limited Edition, which features a retro-modern illustration of legendary hairstylist Oribe Canales both on the bottle and the product’s outer packaging.
It’s hard to imagine luxury haircare before we heard the name Oribe—which is now synonymous with sensuality, glamour, supermodels, and that signature Côte d'Azur scent.
Thanks to the brand’s cult-classic product, Dry Texturizing Spray, stylists can sculpt hair with incredible texture and volume to create bigger, better, glamourous looks that can last for days on end. Behind the legendary product is the legendary man, whose influence extends beyond the beautiful bottle.
When Canales launched Oribe Hair Care in 2008, he merged his love of hairdressing with his admiration of individual beauty to realize a collection with one main focus: create products that perform at the highest level. The brand honors Oribe’s legacy by continuing to place the ultimate importance on its’ products’ performance. To this day, Dry Texturizing Spray remains an award-winning, best seller for the brand, and is considered one of the best styling products of all time.
When Dry Texturizing Spray first hit the scene it blew stylists away, defining an entirely new category within hair care that has often been imitated but never duplicated. This first-of-its-kind product is a cult-favorite among stylists and consumers alike, making everyone who sprays it #oribeobsessed. This invisible dry spray defies logic in its ability to create full-on glamourous hair with incredible volume, texture and shine—it can best be described as a black and gold can full of magic. It manages to create effortless styles while absorbing oil from the roots, creating a big and long-lasting hold without leaving any residue behind. The magic within the bottle is attributed to its innovative formula and technology, which in part uses zeolite crystallines to soak up dirt, oil and odors. With Oribe’s signature scent, Côte d'Azur, it will leave your client’s hair refreshed throughout the day and night.
The Product That Revolutionized Haircare
This new limited-edition release of Dry Texturizing Spray honors Oribe Canales through its unique design. The cheeky illustration on the packaging, coined as the “muscle man” was designed by New York-based painter Alvaro, a longtime friend and collaborator of Oribe Canales. The handsome muscle man is smiling seductively, wearing a leather vest that shows off his tattooed arms. This playful design pays homage to Oribe (the man) and paints the story of Oribe (the brand)’s heritage and dedication to the art of hairdressing.

“The ‘muscle man’ illustration really embodies Oribe’s personality,” says Daniel Kaner, Oribe Hair Care Co-Founder and President, “he was glamorous and a true artist, with an intense personal style that I think of as ‘rough luxury’ — think Savile Row suits with full sleeve tattoos. Take that, and pair it with the fact that Dry Texturizing Spray was such a game-changer – there was nothing on the market that was like it at the time.”
The packaging speaks to the man who was not just larger than life, but always dreaming bigger with an emphasis on ‘more.’ By introducing luxurious haircare that leaves hair looking sexy, weightless, and effortless, he made way for stylists to go big and be bold with their own style.
Fondly remembering the man behind the creation of this iconic product, Kien Hoang says, “Oribe Canales was so gracious, and he really inspired me and others to ‘dream big, think big,
and be confident’ – it’s something he said a lot. He wanted you to develop your own personal signature and when you worked with him, it was like opening up a world of endless possibilities. He encouraged you to think outside of the box with the looks you were creating and to do it with confidence, always with confidence.”
Just like Canales, Dry Texturizing Spray continues to inspire professionals and consumers alike to confidently push the boundaries of styling, while enabling them to create big, beautiful hair.
