Rez’s new color care go-to is the Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate collection. It includes a pro-only backbar system that helps target the three key building blocks of hair: protein, moisture and pH, as well as home care formulas. “This new range is a do-it-all for that luxe, healthy-looking hair we all strive for,” he says. “The acidic formulas maintain what we did in the salon to keep the hair healthiest at home.”
Rez says the home care products keep hair soft and healthy between salon visits and significantly reduce color fading. “It’s easy for clients to use no matter their hair regimen.”
Nowadays color pros are encountering many, many hair color issues in the salon, thanks to pandemic-related neglect and DIY efforts. This is especially the case in California, where salons have been forced to be closed for many months. When clients return, there’s often corrective work to be done!
L.A.-based celebrity stylist and Redken Brand Ambassador Matt Rez @colorbymattrez of Meche Salon is seeing his share of hair color fixer-uppers, and he’s thrilled to have a new weapon for extending the life and integrity of his color saves. “The Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate range is specifically formulated with an acidic pH to defend against the negative effect of hair coloring, styling tools, and even water,” Rez explains. “It helps rebalance hair's pH back to a healthy range of 4.5-5.5. The result is hair that looks and feels healthier and is scientifically proven to be 11 times smoother with 56 percent less breakage and an 82 percent reduction of visible split ends.”
Choose Your Formula

Apply Formula 1/base correction to root area on dry hair. Every few minutes, for up to 20 minutes, comb down from the roots to create a gradient. Rinse after 20 minutes.
HIGHLIGHTS
Redken Flashlift Pods with Bonder Inside + 20-volume developer
Apply the highlight, lowlight and midlight formulas in stacked foil sections using tandem placement. (Rez’s signature “Midlights” technique helps blend and connect the highlight and lowlight shades. Midlights are placed between the light and dark formulas.) Process all foils and remove.
lowLIGHTS
Redken Shades EQ 07M + 08N + 07G + 09NB + Processing Solution
Apply Formula 5/root shadow to the root area. After five minutes, extend the formula along the remainder of the hair shaft to create a seamless blend.
MIDLIGHTS
Redken Shades EQ 09G + 000 Crystal Clear (equal parts) + Processing Solution
Apply Formula 6/gloss to all strands, process 10 minutes and rinse.
ROOT SHADOW
Redken Shades EQ Crème equal parts 6N + 9NA + Processing Solution.
Shampoo and condition with Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Shampoo and Conditioner to restore a healthy pH balance of 4.5 to 5.5. “The entire range contains citric acid,” explains Rez, “which is an alpha hydroxy acid that reinforces weakened bonds to improve strength and hair resiliency after salon bleach or color services.”
GLOSS
Redken Shades EQ Demi Liquid Gloss 10VG
Finish with a quarter-sized amount of Redken Acidic Perfecting Concentrate Leave-In, then style hair as usual.
