With the coming into force in January 2024 of Canada's Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act, thousands of businesses are now required to report on what they do to identify and address the risk of modern slavery being carried out overseas by their suppliers.
If your company matches the criteria laid out by the new legislation, you have until
May 31, 2024
The document must also be made public. It will become searchable online.
In addition to identifying potential areas of forced and child labour in your supply chain, your report should also include any steps taken or planned to address them.
Canada’s focus on modern slavery spells heightened audit risks for any company that imports or uses imported goods, and higher risks of seizure at the border.
