Nursing’s next generation steps up

Read through the over 400 nominating letters we received for this year’s “Salute to Nurses” advertorial section and you will be inspired by the devotion people feel for this quiet army of caregivers who hold us up in our weakest moments: “She went the extra mile,” “above and beyond,” “held my hand, “made me laugh.”
Even as we acknowledge the training and technical proficiency of this generation of nurses, the moments that make a difference are usually human ones. Many praised the oncology nurses who administered their chemo. Why? Because she made them laugh, banishing their fear. They loved their rehab nurse because he wouldn’t let them quit; he pushed them to take just one more step. We saw many school nurses nominated, caregivers always there for our children. Nurses are with us in the operating room, in our homes, in our hospital rooms, and in our assisted living facilities.
These are the nurses who’ve touched our lives. They are the best in the country, probably the best in the world. And it is with great pride that we recognize their service to the community.
