Discrimination in Health Care
Health care in the United States is inequitable. A patient’s gender, race, sexual orientation, and beyond impacts both the care they receive and ultimately their health outcomes. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted these disparities, as well as the need for diversity, equity, and inclusion across the industry. Here, learn about a few of the bold leaders across the country who are working to create a more equitable health care system that puts patients first.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) has rightly risen to a top priority across industries. It’s the key that unlocks the full potential of each employee and unleashes the innovation required to fulfill our ambitions.
An organization with a diverse workforce — filled with unique experiences, ideas, and perspectives — is one that is more innovative and therefore more future-proofed.
At PMI, we’ve recently reached our target of at least 40 percent of women in managerial positions. Our next goal now is to achieve 35 percent of women in senior roles by 2025. And we’ve just completed our year-long study into the multi-layered topic of inclusion and the resulting “Inclusive Future” report—carried out independently by the International Institute for Management Development.
Our hope is that the learnings from this extensive exercise will help us and others track progress toward a truly inclusive culture—one where every employee is valued, respected, heard, and able to bring their best selves to work.
The stories presented today can shed light on existing challenges, and how DEI can be one powerful part of the solution. Everyone needs to be involved in these conversations, and help drive meaningful change for a better future.
