Visit the Frida Kahlo Museum
Located in the same blue house where famed Mexican artist Frida Kahlo was born, this museum contains some of the famed artist's most prized paintings that embody Mexicanidad, or Mexican pride. Her corsets, braces, and prosthetics are also on display alongside select pieces from her fashionable wardrobe, a testament to her refusal to be defined or held back by her disability.
Lucha libre, which translates to “freestyle wrestling,” is iconic to Mexico. Since its inception in the early 20th century, this wrestling sport has evolved to include colorful masks and audience spectacles. For example, unlike wrestlers in the United States, Luchadores perform more high-flying aerial maneuvers in the ring.

Some refer to it as the “lung” of Mexico City, because the park's trees provide both natural space and oxygen to help clean the bustling city's air. It’s also one of the largest city parks in the Western Hemisphere. Walk through the park and you're bound to encounter live, impromptu performances, along with delicious street food vendors.

Located just outside of Mexico City is an ancient Mesoamerican city. The site is a modern archaeological mystery, as some of the structures that remain today were built by an unknown civilization years before the Aztecs discovered it, inhabited it, and named it Teotihuacán — "the place where the gods were created."

Mexico City is one of the world’s leading capitals for street food — from tacos al pastor to esquites to chilaquiles. Be sure to go to the vendors with long lines — it's a great indication of who's serving the best of the best.

EAT & DRINK
The Aztecs considered it the "drink of the gods." Like tequila or mezcal, it's made from the agave plant, but instead of using the heart of the plant, this alcoholic drink is made from the plant’s fermented sap. It has a slightly sour taste and is traditionally served in a terracotta mug.

EAT & DRINK
Unlike tequila, mezcal carries a smokier flavor. While a majority of the country’s mezcal is produced in nearby Oaxaca, the Mezcalería scene is growing throughout Mexico City. Order a few different bottles to build your own tasting flight — or find a local shop or online store offering an at-home tasting package.

These colorful, gondola-like boats ride along what’s left of a larger transportation system built by the Aztecs. As you can imagine, there are many ports to choose from along this canal, but every group travels with a guide on the water who helps them get drinks, food, and entertainment delivered directly to their trajinera via smaller boats.
