Today, about 9,000 members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians live on 57,000 acres in North Carolina’s mountains.
In 2021, the Cherokee syllabary turned 200 years old! It was finalized in 1821 by Sequoyah, a member of the Cherokee Nation.
North Carolina is one of two states where the Venus flytrap can be found.
The largest mansion in America, The Biltmore Estate, is in nearby Asheville, NC.

The hot springs produce almost one million gallons of water per day.
The water in the springs is indeed hot — reaching a scorching 143 degrees Fahrenheit!
President Andrew Jackson signed a law to preserve the Hot Springs land in 1832, making it the oldest park managed by the National Park System.
Hot Springs was the off-season capital of Major League Baseball during the late 1800s and early 1900s.
