Speaking in another language is often stressful. Students may struggle to find things to say and ways of saying them.
The lesson enables fluency to develop through immersive speaking tasks such as telling stories and engaging in debates.

Maximizing time for speaking
From our research, we know that teachers find it difficult to teach speaking and make time for it in the curriculum. Nevertheless, to improve their communicative competence, students need to take part in fluency-based, meaningful speaking activities.
The Time to speak lessons offer teachers the opportunity to create a safe speaking environment, and the teacher’s notes provide the support to help them do this.
