Developing Life Competencies for your learners
Discover practical techniques for developing life competencies of your learners alongside their English skills.
Join us for a series of interactive online workshops where you will learn more about life competencies and how to use it in your English teaching. Each workshop will be delivered by an experienced trainer, and will be research-informed, drawing on the Cambridge Life Competencies Framework. You will take away practical strategies and activities for your classroom. The workshops are collaborative, so come prepared to learn and to share your experience and ideas.
Topics
You can attend a workshop series for developing life competencies with teenage or young learners. Each series will have four 75-minute workshops focusing on different topics:
Social responsibilities, communication, and intercultural awareness
Collaboration and creative thinking
Critical thinking and digital literacy
Learning to learn
Social responsibilities

Communication and emotional development
Teenage Learners
Young Learners
Each workshop will be delivered in two time slots, to make sure that, wherever you are in the world, there is a session you can attend.

What you'll receive
Each workshop will include input, tasks and opportunities for discussion. Following your workshop you will receive a certificate of attendance to demonstrate your participation. You'll have access to resources to help you put into practice what you have learnt and revisit learning points.

You can purchase the workshops online. Each series costs £30 for four workshops, which works out at just £7.50 per session. You can choose from the following options:

Matthew Ellman works as Professional Learning and Development Manager at Cambridge University Press & Assessment, designing and delivering training for teachers, institutions and Ministries of Education around the world. He has worked as a teacher, trainer and training manager in the UK, Spain and Malaysia, and has delivered workshops and talks to teachers in a further 25 countries. Matthew is co-author, with Peter Lucantoni, of From Teacher to Trainer (2022) and his research into teacher education practices won the British Council’s ELT Masters Dissertation Award at the 2018 ELTons. Andrea Tolve is the Professional Learning and Development Manager for Cambridge University Press and Assessment Iberia (Spain and Portugal) and has been working in the ELT world since 1999. She has experience in teaching all levels and age groups in Zagreb and Madrid and has been involved in developing and delivering teacher training solutions for over a decade. She has a Master of Arts in Education (Applied Linguistics) with The Open University and is passionate about teacher training and development.

All workshops will be delivered via Zoom. Please make sure you install Zoom before the workshop to make sure you can join. You can do this at https://zoom.us/ We strongly encourage you to use a laptop or computer rather than a mobile device as this will ensure you can view shared documentation and particapate in group discussions.

How will the workshops be delivered?
The workshops are designed for teachers who have a minimum language level of B2.
Who should attend?
Yes, you will receive a certificate for attending all the live sessions in your workshop series. These will be provided by email after the sessions.
Will I receive a certificate?
You only attend to times purchased (morning OR afternoon). You cannot purchase or attend some morning sessions and some afternoon sessions for your series. Please note that the input for morning and afternoon sessions will be the same. You will receive one certificate of attendance.
Can I attend both the morning and afternoon workshops on the same topic?
Yes, you can buy and attend the workshops for both our topics. However, please note that this will mean a busy schedule for you as our sessions are delivered every week across 4 weeks.
Can I buy and attend the workshops for Teenage learners and Primary learners?
We will not be sharing recordings of the workshops after the live event as the group discussions are an important part of each session which you will benefit from by attending live. Certificates will only be awarded to teachers who take part in all the live sessions. However, we will be sharing resources with you after the sessions so that you can catch up.
Will I be sent a link so that I can re-watch my workshop(s)?
If you're unable to attend your workshop, you can apply for a refund via the Cambridge Shop. Refunds must be registered at least 48 hours before your workshop is due to start.
I’ve purchased a workshop series but unfortunately can’t attend, what are my options?
If you only attend some of the workshops within the series, we will share resources with you after the series has finished so that you can catch up. Please note that you need to attend all live sessions to receive a certificate.
I purchased a workshop series but have missed one of the workshop sessions, what are my options?

Once you have purchased your chosen workshop series on the Cambridge English Shop you will receive a confirmation email and will be redirected to a page showing the online joining links ready for you to download and add to your calendar. We will email you closer to the start of the workshops with a reminder of these links, but please keep them safe. For each topic you’ll have the choice between attending the live sessions at 09:00 or 15:00 (UK time) across the 4 weeks.
