To keep plastic out of the ground, we need to digitize our approach, streamline manual processes, and use incentives to encourage participation.
This is our mission – to change the environment for our country, and for Asia, for the whole world.

More life for plastics.
Better quality of life.
In Malaysia, plastic waste is a fact of life. At the moment, much of it is burned or buried, but private recycling companies and entrepreneurs also collect, process, and resell this plastic as a raw material to key industries, including car, household goods, and toy makers.
The Mojave Desert:
Tens of thousands of independent collectors, some of them entire families, make a living by gathering plastics. Heng Hiap Industries, a Malaysian recycler, buys from over 28,000 of them. Presently, the system is highly manual and fragmented, requiring collectors to drive around from place to place, searching for both plastics and buyers. But Heng Hiap was convinced that if collection and trading were smarter, everyone would benefit. With digitization, collectors would benefit from a more efficient process, more households could participate in recycling, and less plastic would end up in landfills and incinerators.
Being able to recycle with the click of a button and get rewarded would make a massive difference.

With the app, Heng Hiap will be able to boost the quality of life for thousands of collectors. Better still, it will allow users and collectors of plastic to recycle more easily and in a transparent manner, with visibility about where it ends up once recycled.
In this way, the app could exponentially increase the volume of plastic that is recycled, resulting in a win for people and the planet.

Every year across the world, countries produce around
350 million* metric tons of plastic waste. That’s about the weight of 1,000 Empire State Buildings.

Most recycled plastics are as good, if not better, than the original plastics they’re made from. Better still, many can be recycled up to eight times, and through chemical recycling, some can be recycled infinitely.
To do this, Heng Hiap collaborated with Capgemini to transform its plastic recycling infrastructure. Key to their approach was working with Applied Innovation Exchange, a global network at Capgemini that allows businesses to innovate at speed and scale.
Together, they developed an app that lets consumers request pickups and collectors respond to requests, plan routes, and be paid digitally.
This way, the old-fashioned linear economy of plastic production, use, collection, and disposal could give way to a circular model. One where plastic could potentially have many lives, and benefit businesses and communities each time.
