Recovery and relationships within schools - addressing the Emotional and behavioural consequences of the pandemic
Angi Franklin and Adele Plant, SEN and Inclusion Team at Entrust
Children and young people may allow themselves to be distracted when they return to school, but for everyone, staff included, the return to school is a big transition.
They may not have had the support they needed to access learning and have fallen behind their peers, they may have experienced the loss of someone in their family or divorce, domestic violence, or a loss of belonging or structure. These feelings do not go away by just attending school again. If a child or young person is anxious it affects their ability to learn and their well-being, they may have mood swings, become irrational, have difficulties sleeping and cumulatively this will diminish the child’s ability to engage in class in a meaningful manner.
This workshop explores some ways to support children and young people and address some of these issues.
11.45 - 12.30

Assessment by stealth: rebuilding pupil confidence
Jon Chambers and Gillian Tomlinson (Learning by Questions) and Jason Hudson (Deputy Head Teacher at Florendine Primary School)
As our pupils settle back into learning, we want so much for them. How can we build on their strengths and support any areas of difficulty without subjecting them to constant testing?
Some of our pupils may be feeling uncertain or underconfident now that they are (thankfully) back in busy classrooms. Other pupils may have learned new skills that they are keen to put to use. How can we help them all to shine?
In this webinar we discuss key success factors identified by the EEF and supported by data from the LbQ platform including:

From first aid kit to education reform
Sam Compton and Leah Miles – Parkside Primary School
This session captures one school’s journey as an initial response to Covid 19, on a path to system change and education reform with no going back.
You will hear how Parkside Primary has moved technology from the edge to the middle, not for the sake of technology, but for the gains surfaced in outcomes from effective use over the last year. Parkside is a school that readily admits their technology estate is not the greatest, and their use of it had not previously been a strength, but has in the shortest of timescales grasped the art of the possible. With a commitment to Rosenshine’s principles driving pedagogy, the school now places technology at centre stage for consideration rather than the edge, seeking to maximise benefits for all whenever that outcome is possible.

A life of learning.
Dr. Sabrina Cohen-Hatton
What is it that makes a difference in a young persons life? Sabrina Cohen-Hatton spent two years as a teenager living on the streets of Newport, sitting her GCSE’s whilst homeless and selling The Big Issue. A teacher crossed the road when they saw her sleeping rough. Escaping the streets and working her way out of poverty, Sabrina joined the Fire and Rescue to service to try and help save other people, in a way no-one did for her. She returned to education and gained a PhD in Neuroscience. This session shares Sabrina’s experience and her views on what it takes for individuals to realise their potential.
About Dr Sabrina Cohen-Hatton
Sabrina has been a firefighter since she was eighteen years old. She is now one of the most senior female firefighters in the UK.
After leaving home at fifteen and school at sixteen, she joined the fire service in Wales. While climbing the ranks, she studied at the Open University and then at Cardiff University, eventually completing a PhD in Psychology. Her subsequent research into incident command in the emergency services has not only won awards but has also influenced policy at a global level. Sabrina was recently conferred as an Honorary Fellow at Cardiff University. Her first book, The Heat of the Moment, was published in 2019. She is an ambassador for the Big Issue.
She lives with her husband and daughter in London.
