Patient Sensing Technology
In the patient not detected screen, ensure sleeves are properly wrapped around the patient’s leg, then press the confirm button
Patient detection status appears on the main screen • Green check mark with green LED lights indicate patient is detected. • If patient is not detected, an audible alarm will go off and the LED lights will turn yellow.
*Griffin et al. 2007 study compared the hemodynamic performances of three different IPC devices. The results confirmed that the Kendall SCD™ system: Moved more blood per hour, increased the volume of blood per compression cycle and achieved more compression cycles over time.Griffin M, Kakkos SK, Geroulakos G, Nicolaides AN. Comparison of three intermittent pneumatic compression systems in patients with varicose veins: a hemodynamic study. Int Angiol. 2007;26(2):158-164.
Proprietary technology designed to move more blood* by measuring the time it takes for a patient’s veins in the limb to refill after having been compressed by the system. The frequency of compression cycles is then set based on the patient’s specific venous refill time.
Vascular Refill Detection
Demo Mode Press and hold the Lower-Right button for 5 seconds (during therapy). Vascular Refill Detection will occur on the next compression cycle (once set pressure is met) New calculated vent time is shown at the end of the demo.
Cardinal Health’s patented Vascular Refill Detection (VRD) method to customize the therapy for each patient’s physiology. VRD occurs automatically every 30 minutes, denoted by the graphic shown and requires no operator interaction. VRD does not occur on battery power and the time between compressions on the same limb will default to 60 seconds.
Six-day history displays the compression therapy applied to the patient over the last 6 days.
Using Therapy Tracker
Press this button to select New Patient. Pressing the checkmark icon twice will clear the full patient history data in the Therapy Tracker.
In the compliance history screen, press this button to access 6-day of therapy history.
To navigate to the Therapy Tracker meter history, select the gray button next to the [3 line] icon. Then select the [calendar] icon to access the last six days of therapy. This History menu can be opened by pressing the gray button next to the [checkmark] icon.
Look back menu allows the clinician to view patient therapy time. This menu can be accessed by pressing the bottom left gray button.
Press this button to clear the shift time. Two buttons' presses are required to clear it.
Press this button to access the look back menu. This feature allows the clinician to view patient therapy time occurred in the last 8, 12 or 24 hours. To clear the therapy history, return to the menu and select the Add New Patient icon and then press the gray button next to the [checkmark] icon. This will then show the therapy history on the device. It will flash until the gray button next to the [checkmark] icon is pressed. Press the gray button next to the [checkmark] icon to clear the therapy data.
Press this button takes you back to the main screen.
The Therapy Tracker feature will track therapy for a patient, or non-therapy periods, from the moment the device is turned on and a patient is detected. Easy to read on the main screen and can be used to monitor the amount of time compression therapy is delivered either by shift, day, or during an entire hospital stay (up to six days). This feature does not interrupt normal operation.
Therapy time is shown as blue segments for the periods of the 24-hr clock that therapy was active. Non-therapy periods are denoted in orange segments. The time provided in center of the 24-hr clock indicates the cumulative time that therapy was provided for the current calendar day.
Garment detection procedure.
Start Up
If a garment is attached after the garment detection procedure has started, the system must be restarted. Normal operation then begins by starting the compression therapy.
Once the garment is properly attached, the pump will automatically detect whether leg or foot sleeve is attached. An image of the detected garment will appear on the screen.
Turning on the pump.
When the controller is starting up, the side LEDs will momentarily flash and a progress bar will then be shown on the screen. The pump will begin to operate as the start-up and Garment Detection procedures are completed automatically.
Plug the controller power cord into a properly grounded hospital grade receptacle then press the power button to begin normal operation.
Connecting the garments to the controller.
Prepare for Compression
4 - Plug the white sleeve connector into a mating connector on the tubing leading to the controller. Match the left and right ports, marked B and A respectively, with the left and right limbs of the patient.
Applying the garments on the patient’s legs.
3 - Position the sleeve so that the sleeve is centered directly behind the patient’s leg. Wrap the sleeve securely around the patient’s leg, beginning with the side without the hook tape.
Before starting compression therapy, there are a few steps you need to take before turning on the controller.
2 - Plug the reusable tubing set into the back of the controller
1 - Place the controller on the footboard by squeezing the bed hook ensuring adequate air flow around the device and avoid obstructing the tubing connections to avoid overheating

Common Errors and Troubleshooting
For complete list of error codes and troubleshooting guide, refer to the Operation Manual
4. Service required errors: this type of error code features a Biomed icon on the screen, and no icon. This means the error code is present because of a failed internal component. It can not be addressed by the user.
This alarm indicates a component failure that requires the service of a qualified BioMed. Error code E13 indicates pressure transducer problem.
3. Manual reset error: this icon features a few different types of graphics on the screen, and the icon. This type of error can be troubleshot and corrected by the user but requires the device to be powered off and on. If the error persists, then the controller requires service.
E1 error code indicates high pressure error. The suggested resolution is to check for a kink in the tubing. The pump will need to be turned off/on once the issue is addressed.
• Checking the garments for proper fit • Checking the tubing for proper connection • Checking garments and tubes for leaks • Ensuring the garments are a valid configuration
2. User resettable errors: this icon features a few different types of graphics on the screen and includes the option to press the icon. This type of error can be resolved by the user taking a few different actions, depending on what the error is. These actions include:
E12 error code indicates very low pressure. • Pressure measured in the inflatable garment has fallen below allowable limits, or • No garments are detected during startup, or • The garments are an invalid configuration. To resolve this error: • Check for disconnected tube sets or garments and reconnect, or • Connect garments, or • Check that the garments are a valid configuration.
1. Recharge battery errors
This error occurs when there is less than 15 minutes of battery charge remaining. This error can be resolved by plugging the controller into an AC power outlet
This error occurs when there is less than 40 minutes of battery charge remaining. This error can be resolved by plugging the controller into an AC power outlet
There are four types of errors: 1. Battery errors 2. User resettable errors 3. Manual reset errors 4. Service errors
