For example, if you are shipping a pillow, even though it is lightweight, it would need to be placed in a larger box that takes up a considerable amount of space, so DIM weight would likely apply.

Calculating the DIM weight prior to shipping will help you understand additional costs that may apply. Always try to ship the item in an appropriate size box, versus using larger boxes that may be available, but will cost more to ship.
