TO OUR STAKEHOLDERS
D. Christian Koch Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Carlisle Companies Incorporated
Despite the consequences of the pandemic, 2020 reconfirmed our conviction in Vision 2025, our strategic plan which gives us clear direction and consistency of mission during these tumultuous times. As Chairman, President and CEO of Carlisle Companies, an essential part of the job is to cut through complexity and communicate clearly, directly, and confidently a strategic vision for the organization that informs priorities, educates on the mission, and guides everyday actions. As we continued our ESG journey in 2020, we advanced our sustainability goals by creating and implementing the Carlisle Environmental Sustainability Policy, which specifies the collection of detailed ESG data. Through evaluating the data, we can measure factors like pay equity or GHG emissions which we will use to establish improvement targets. The policy further establishes a process to engage our supply chain and ensure compliance with Carlisle policies for fair labor practices and our code of conduct. Finally, the policy formalizes our commitment to certify all our manufacturing facilities to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
Report additional frameworks including The Taskforce for Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB). Begin the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System qualification process for an additional 12 manufacturing facilities. Launch Carlisle’s ESG portal, which will give investors and the general public unfettered access to Carlisle’s progress and data related to product-specific efficiency attributes, safety, training, Diversity and Inclusion as well as topic-specific GRI data.

While the ever-evolving nature of the ESG reporting environment continues, the development and implementation of policies such as our Environmental Sustainability Policy ensure we at Carlisle leverage continuous improvements to be a better company for our stakeholders. Our mission is to drive actions to achieve results on our ESG journey. Thank you for taking time to learn more about our ESG efforts.
In 2020, we elevated the Director of Sustainability role to Vice-President to further strengthen the impact of sustainability within Carlisle and to ensure accountability. The Vice President of Sustainability reports directly to the Chairman, President and CEO. Our intent is to make certain this leader will drive greater accountability, purpose, and alignment, as well as guide our ESG-reporting to a measurable level of prominence in our industry.
Our Sustainability journey will continue during 2021 as we:

A New Era for ESG at Carlisle
I’m very pleased to be appointed Vice-President of Sustainability and lead Carlisle’s sustainability efforts. Having served in a variety of roles at Carlisle, this role has proven to be the most rewarding. I look forward to showcasing the impactful contributions of Carlisle team members towards achieving our sustainability goals.
Carlisle’s first Corporate Sustainability Report (CSR), published in early 2020, reflected our legacy of sustainability and highlighted our continued stewardship and respect of and for our stakeholders. Following that first CSR, we created the Carlisle Environmental Sustainability Policy. The policy prescribes the collection of consumption data from our more than 170 facilities across the globe. Data for water, electricity, gas and hazardous waste were collected to establish baselines for future efficiency targets. The policy further establishes a process to engage our supply chain and to ensure compliance with Carlisle policies. Finally, the policy formalizes our commitment to certify all our manufacturing facilities to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System by the end of 2025.
The themes of this year’s sustainability report reveal the great pride Carlisle’s employees take in engineering and manufacturing products that benefit our customers by improving manufacturing efficiency and increasing sustainable attributes.
Additionally, the legacy of our Diversity and Inclusion efforts, as demonstrated with our continuous female representation on our Board of Directors since 1978, is reflected as we advance our Diversity and Inclusion goals. Finally, the report will review our safety improvement efforts as exhibited by the Path to Zero program. As we deliver on Vision 2025, Carlisle remains steadfast in our commitment to ESG and another century of responsible stewardship.

As part of Carlisle’s Environmental Sustainability Policy, we continue to work toward making all our manufacturing facilities ISO 14001-certified. Currently 22 of 89 plants are ISO 14001 certified and 3 are ISO 50001.
Throughout the pandemic, many of our facilities remained open, but our production volumes were lower. As a result, we saw a decrease in resource use and greenhouse gas emissions accompanied by an increase in intensity when benchmarked against revenue. As our businesses continue to ramp up throughout 2021, we expect performance to return and improve as we continue to drive environmental action.

We did this not to be compliant or to meet a legislative mandate, but because it was authentic to our culture, always with an eye for acting in the best interest of our stakeholders — and because it drives better results. Carlisle Operating System
The Carlisle Operating System is an important conduit for employee engagement and development. Employees are encouraged to participate in and submit ideas for ongoing Kaizen events. In 2019, all factory employees participated in our Management for Daily Improvement (MDI) process, covering topics such as safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency — all with the aim of making Carlisle and the work experience better and stronger. Since its inception, COS programs have realized savings, cost avoidance and benefits in excess of $500 million dollars.
Carlisle utilizes COS, an operating system based on lean enterprise and six sigma principles to drive operational excellence.
“Early in my career while in my first role as a factory manager, I learned how important it is to create workspaces where employees can be confident that they will leave every day in the same condition as when they arrived. This is why I receive a report on every safety incident that occurs at Carlisle across the world every day, 365 days a year.”

Carlisle partnered with St. John’s Technical High School in St. Augustine, Florida, to create The Manufacturing Academy. High school students coming from challenging backgrounds are offered the opportunity to learn about careers in manufacturing through paid hands-on experiences. When students join the Academy, they go through an onboarding process, which includes learning about manufacturing, safety, and Carlisle’s products. From there, students come every week for two hours for an entire school year, training on all manufacturing functions. They are paired with a mentor from Carlisle who helps the students develop their skills and confidence.
Carlisle’s commitment to civility and Veterans is realized through partnerships with organizations such as UMOM New Day Centers which provides housing, education, job placement and health and wellness support to citizens in need in Phoenix. Developed in association with Bain & Company in 2020, Carlisle launched the Carlisle Leadership System, which is built on the foundations of our established talent development programs and will enhance talent recognition, development and retention.
• • • • • •
It is a holistic and mutually reinforcing set of tools, processes and programs aimed at attracting, retaining, and developing Carlisle’s greatest resource. We have taken special care to ensure that our culture — continuous improvement, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a focus on delivering results for our stakeholders — is embedded throughout this system. This transformative step is a natural evolution in our approach to talent and critical for our achievement of Vision 2025. With the implementation of the Carlisle Leadership System in 2021, we will refresh and strengthen our leadership development programming. In addition, we will begin rolling out new protocols for determining program eligibility. These protocols will enable Carlisle to cast a wide net and to use specific evaluation tools to ensure we are both identifying all those with the potential for leadership advancement, and reducing the potential impact of unconscious bias. As we continue into our second century of operations, Carlisle will leverage our culture of continuous improvement by seeking ways to enhance our talent development, diversity & inclusion, benefits and safety programs, all with an eye on treating our employees fairly, respecting the communities in which we operate, and putting forth our best effort to ensure we remain a responsible business partner.
