D. Christian Koch Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Carlisle Companies Incorporated
We take pride in sharing our story about the ongoing sustainability efforts Carlisle employees put forth every day. Thank you for taking time to learn about our sustainability efforts and progress, and we encourage you to stay engaged as we continue our culture of continuous improvement.
At Carlisle, we view Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices as part of our culture. During our over 100-year history, we have always sought to treat our employees fairly, respect the communities in which we operate, and put forth our best effort to ensure we remain a responsible business partner.
Strategy
Since our founding in 1917, Carlisle has been focused on continuous improvement and efficiency. From recycling scrap rubber into the production stream in our earliest inner-tube manufacturing line in the 1920s, to including millions of pounds of scrap material every year into our current production streams, Carlisle’s practice of sustainable, efficient process remains an important driver in our legacy of responsible stewardship. Carlisle’s century long heritage of sustainability gained additional focus with the decision to publish our first, Corporate Sustainability / ESG Report.

Training
All Carlisle employees are encouraged to participate in ”Kaizen,” or Continuous Improvement events. Through these COS led events, employees learn new skills from facilitators, transfer knowledge across functional groups, work on problems to improve our businesses and develop deeper ties to the company and to each other. Participation in Kaizen events for the period including the last twelve months on a rolling basis was approximately 40% across our businesses. This participation rate highlights the commitment Carlisle employees have to our culture of continuous improvement despite the safety measures to combat COVID-19 impacting our ability to work closely together.
CLS is Carlisle’s flagship program and is intended to further develop high potential leaders. This group meets on an annual basis with Carlisle Executive Team to network, review company strategy and results, share best practices and grow their leadership skills together.
Carlisle Leadership Summit (CLS)
Carlisle reaches a wide array of potential employees and includes the engagement of specialized, diverse recruiting firms such as The Standard Diversity Network, Jobs4Women.net, Asian American Jobsite, African American Jobsite, and many others. This includes partnerning with over 40 universities in the United States and several outside the U.S., recruiting for full-time, internships and co-op positions and engaging in collaborative R&D and training efforts.

Carlisle has pledged to take action to cultivate a workplace where diverse perspectives and experiences are welcomed and respected.
Diversity & Inclusion
Diversity & Inclusion Awareness and Unconscious Bias Training
In 2018, unconscious bias training was instituted as a key component of Carlisle’s leadership development programs. This training helps inform leaders of biases and provides a forum for them to explore how Carlisle can strengthen our culture of inclusion by addressing and breaking down biases.
In May 2018, Carlisle joined the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™, a growing coalition of CEOs of major corporations pledging to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
Carlisle analyzes pay trends and drills down to determine root causes of pay equity gaps. Carlisle is committed to diligently reviewing and resolving each discrepancy to ensure that compensation for our employees is equal across genders for comparable work, experience, and performance.
Implementing Tools and Processes to Ensure Pay Equity
Over the last 3 years, Carlisle has achieved an 8 percentage point improvement in the representation of women in senior leadership roles. This has largely been achieved by demanding a diverse candidate pool for senior leadership openings. We have set a target to achieve 25% representation by the end of 2020.
My Carlisle Path
The “My Carlisle Path” video series celebrates interesting, diverse Carlisle employees and their careers at Carlisle Companies. See More My Carlisle Paths
One of the key drivers of Vision 2025 is talent engagement, retention and development. Carlise offers industry leading benefits to ensure our employees are safe, healthy and engaged in the pursuit of our company objectives. Some recent highlights: • Holding healthcare costs flat for the second consecutive year while healthcare costs are expected to rise 5.7% nationally in 2021. • In 2020, raising Carlisle’s minimum starting wage to $15 for 100% of our U.S. workforce. • In 2018, Carlisle global employees were granted 100 stock options or equity equivalent, which had the benefits of providing employees an opportunity to share in Carlisle’s growth potential.

Carlisle utilizes COS, an operating system based on lean enterprise and six sigma principles to drive operational excellence.
The Carlisle Operating System is an important conduit for employee engagement and development. Employees are encouraged to participate in and submit ideas for ongoing Kaizen events. In 2019, all factory employees participated in our Management for Daily Improvement (MDI) process, covering topics such as safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency — all with the aim of making Carlisle and the work experience better and stronger. Since its inception, COS programs have realized savings and benefits in excess of $400 million dollars.
Safety
Carlisle is continuously striving to provide safer, healthier work environments. Through the Carlisle Operating System (COS), we have launched “The Path to Zero,” an initiative to drive our incident rate to zero.
OSHA Incident Rate
Path to Zero represents our commitment to creating the safest possible work environment and features the goal of zero accidents and zero injuries. Path to Zero is the core of our safety management system, which is modeled on international and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (‘OSHA’) standards. Ongoing safety training, reporting of near misses to identify areas to improve, and a safety-first culture help drive our safety results, including an incident rate dropping from 2.15 to 1.04 from 2014 to 2019, well below industry standards for all of our businesses. We are proud of our safety record but, as in every continuous improvement culture, we know there is always room for growth.
“Early in my career while in my first role as a factory manager, I learned how important it is to create workspaces where employees can be confident that they will leave every day in the same condition as when they arrived. This is why I receive a report on every safety incident that occurs at Carlisle across the world every day, 365 days a year.”

All of Carlisle’s business units are involved in their local communities providing resources to address local challenges.
Community & Civility
Carlisle’s employees take great pride in identifying and working toward solutions that benefit communities in which we operate. Carlisle is engaged in more than 100 community organizations, charities and philanthropic initiatives across the globe. Below are a few examples:
Carlisle supports Headstrong, which provides confidential, cost-free, and frictionless mental health care treatment for military veterans and their families that works. In partnership with Weill Cornell Medicine, one of the nation’s leading mental health care centers, Headstrong developed an effective, individually tailored and comprehensive treatment program for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and related military trauma.
Carlisle partners with Elevate Phoenix. Across America’s hard-to-serve urban areas, public school students drop out of school in alarming numbers, and for those that do graduate, the road to post-secondary education is filled with obstacles. Too many of America’s high school students are underserved and, as a result, are underperforming. The Elevate Phoenix model has proven effective in changing these trends and transforming the lives of our city’s youth. It is our goal to change the outcome for our future leaders.
Carlisle is committed to four areas of community engagement: Civility, Veterans, Education, and Mental Health Services.

Carlisle supports Enactus, an international organization active in 37 countries that connects university students, academics and business leaders through projects based on sustainable entrepreneurship. The mission of Enactus is to invest in talented young people who are committed to carrying out business projects aimed at generating measurable impacts in the community. Enactus’ projects and social enterprises enable transformational opportunities to become a reality, creating a sustainable future for the individuals themselves and their communities.
Carlisle partnered more than a decade ago with St. John’s Technical High School in St. Augustine, Florida to create The Manufacturing Academy. High school students coming from challenging backgrounds are offered the opportunity to learn about careers in manufacturing through paid hands-on experiences. When students join the Academy, they go through an onboarding process, which includes learning about manufacturing, safety, and Carlisle’s products. From there, students come every week for two hours for an entire school year, training on all manufacturing functions. They are paired with a mentor from Carlisle who helps the students develop their skills and confidence.
