What attracted you
to Carter Jonas?
I was really attracted by the support Carter Jonas offers in the graduate scheme. Coming from a non-cognate academic background, Carter Jonas was extremely accommodating in sponsoring me to complete a part-time RICS accredited MSC in real estate, so then I could be eligible to complete my APC. This provided me with a lot of reassurance that I was joining a company that genuinely wanted me to succeed.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Normally I start my day with a quick team meeting, or a call with my line manager to check what the priorities are for the week. With all of the solar development projects I am working at the moment, I tend to spend some time using Google Earth and the Carter Jonas mapping terriers to screen land for potential solar development opportunities. Typically I have several client calls a week, so if there is one scheduled I will take time to prepare for the call to ensure I have an update for my client.
What do you love about Carter Jonas the most?
I absolutely love the working environment here at Carter Jonas. I feel like I am constantly encouraged to get out of my comfort zone and take on responsibilities that accelerate my career growth. This is helped by the
fact I work with a team full of kind and supportive people, who I feel extremely comfortable
talking to.
Currently, my work primarily revolves around site screening, land assembly, and feasibility studies for prospective energy projects, particularly in solar and electric vehicle infrastructure development.

What does a typical day
look like for you?
As a chartered building surveyor, I am involved in a wide variety of work including professional advice on dilapidations, leases, building defects and insurance together with project based work such as refurbishment, conversion and new build instructions mainly on commercial property but also some residential.
What skills do you need to be successful in your role?
Being adaptable to deal with different situations and people is very important. I meet clients who have varying degrees of knowledge related to construction and property matters so it is essential to offer appropriate advice that is clear and well defined so that important decisions can be made.
What’s your favourite project so far?
There have been many but my most notable has been managing and delivering a CAT A refurbishment project on 20,000 sqft of office space in central Bath during 2017. The project lasted for four months and we transformed the building into modern open-plan office space. I worked closely with our business space agency colleagues to assist in re-letting the space on completion. A great team effort.
